Bloons are balloon-like entities that appear in the Bloons franchise. They come in many colors, shapes, and sizes, ranging from small toy balloons to enormous dirigible-like Bloons. [edit | edit source]In the Bloons TD series, Bloons Supermonkey series, and Bloons Pop!, Bloons have multiple layers that are removed as they take damage. The more layers a Bloon has, the more damage the Bloon requires to fully destroy. Each layer has different colors and properties.
Outside of the aforementioned games, a similar property is observed in the Nested Bloon in Bloons 2, which has three "layers" that allow the Bloon to be popped up to three times, and the Nested Bloon cards in Bloons Card Storm, which spawn weaker Nested Bloons when destroyed.
When popped, most Bloons spawn one or more Bloons close to them. These spawned Bloons are called children.[1] Each descending generation of these Bloons is a layer of that Bloon.

When asked what the Bloons do in their spare time on the Ninja Kiwi Blog, Ninja Kiwi stated that they "prepare for more attacks on the Monkeys".
Bloons are capable of inflicting severe bodily harm to monkeys, such as when a "nefarious DDT" almost mortally wounded Quincy and required him to be augmented with cybernetic implants to survive, though how they accomplish this is unclear. Bloons Card Storm depicts Bloons attacking Heroes by ramming into them, though this doesn't appear to cause much physical harm. In the Bloons series and Bloons Supermonkey series, Bloons are not usually depicted directly attacking monkeys, but in Helium Heights in Bloons Supermonkey 2, they use Bloptonite as a way of harming Super Monkey. The game over screen of Bloons Super Monkey depicts the Super Monkey's torn cape on a branch, although what happens to the Super Monkey himself is unclear.
In addition to harming monkeys, Bloons are able to destroy structures. In Bloons Monkey City, Monkey v Monkey allows players to attack other players' cities, and if an opponent fails to defend, the Bloons may destroy some of their buildings. In Bloons Pop!, Bloons attack and destroy multiple Scenes, such as the Monkey Town Hall and On The Beach.
While usually depicted as hostile towards monkeys, some games depict Bloons cooperating with monkeys, such as in Hot Air Bloon. In some Quests in Bloons TD 6, the Bloons cooperate with monkeys, such as them holding a truce in Bloons TD 6 Birthday Party, and a Bloon helping two Dartling Gunners in New Dart Just Dropped raise money by sending more Bloons their way.

[edit | edit source]Bloons, also classified as Basic Bloons in Bloons Card Storm, are the smallest type of bloon in the Bloons series. They resemble conventional toy balloons and are typically the weakest type of bloon in the series, possessing less health than MOAB-Class Bloons but usually moving faster than them. Because of this, bloons appear before MOABs make their first appearance. Bloons are vulnerable against many attacks and effects to which MOAB-Class bloons are resistant or immune.
MOAB-Class Bloon
[edit | edit source]MOAB-Class Bloons are larger bloons that resemble blimps and possess greater health and size than a regular bloon, but with slower mobility. While they are typically resistant or immune against many attacks or effects, there are other attacks that are stronger or only have an effect against MOABs. The category is named after the MOAB, the first MOAB-Class Bloon introduced to the series and the most basic MOAB-Class Bloon in most games, although weaker MOAB-Class Bloons exist, such as the Mini MOAB. Bloons Card Storm has a similar classification, "Large Bloons", though it also includes large non-dirigible Bloons, such as the Weakening Gas Bloon.
Boss Bloon
[edit | edit source]Boss Bloons are very large Bloons that typically possess special mechanics and even more health than the strongest MOABs before them. They typically only appear in specific levels or events and destroying them is usually the main objective. Most games treat them as a subset of MOAB-Class Bloons.
Advanced Bloons
[edit | edit source]Advanced Bloons are a category of Bloons introduced in Bloons Card Storm, typically classified by having a unique effect while not being a MOAB-Class bloon. The Ceramic and Rainbow Bloon lack a unique effect, instead being characterized by having above average health.
