Homeland Defense is one of the strongest support towers in the game as it gives all monkeys (excluding Paragons) on the map to receive a substantial boost in DPS that they wouldn't have otherwise, making it essential in freeplay. Its overall uptime ends up being about 50%, so adding a second village with [[Call to Arms (BTD6)|Call to Arms]] can be activated during this downtime, with three villages needed to have complete uptime coverage. Alternatively, selling the Homeland Defense will keep its buff on other towers, so one can sell and re-buy Homeland Defense as a more expensive means of keeping the buff, but this is not recommended unless the player has lots of cash they don't need.

Other than freeplay and Boss Events other than Lych, it is usually too expensive (mainly in CHIMPS) or a bit overkill (in other game modes).
Other than freeplay and Boss Events/Boss Rush which don't involve Lych, it is usually too expensive (mainly in CHIMPS) or a bit overkill (in other game modes). A Call to Arms is sufficient enough elsewhere.

250 is the optimal crosspath for it as it amplifies the attack speed to all monkeys in range further, but 052 can be considered if a X02 village is nearby.
There is no optimal crosspath for Homeland Defense, as it comes down to defense layout and personal preference. 2-5-0 is useful to buff towers in range with Jungle Drums, but if other villages with that upgrade are nearby it is not required.
