The Gift Box[1] is a game mechanic in Bloons TD 6 that allows the player to unlock certain towers by popping Bloon layers in any game mode that allows XP generation. This feature available at the main menu and is unlocked at level 30.
The following towers are unlocked only by the Gift Box:
- Dartling Gunner (3,000,000 pops)
- Beast Handler (3,000,000 pops)
- Mermonkey (3,000,000 pops)
- Desperado (3,500,000 pops)
These towers also have a corresponding trial Quest that include each of them before unlocking them in a normal game.
After selecting a tower in the Gift Box, the player may begin obtaining pops for that tower. The player is allowed to pick a new tower while another tower has made progress, though pops will go to that new tower instead. Progress can be found in the Gift Box or while viewing the tower's upgrades menu.
Once enough pops are obtained, the Gift Box will bounce around, and once tapped then the unlock screen for the tower will play and then unlock the tower.
Obtaining Pops
During standard gameplay, Freeplay, Contested Territory, Odysseys and Rogue Legends, pops increment exactly when a bloon layer is popped, ceramic is destroyed, or MOAB bloon is taken down. During games of Co-op, pops obtained will correlate to the total sum of bloons popped by all players. The "Pop Count" statistic (seen after the round goal is met for any above gamemode or after hitting a game over during freeplay) may report numbers lower than actual results due to a player using a continue or going back to a prior checkpoint. Players cannot obtain pops in the Content Browser, Quests, or Races.
As of v51.0, regenerated layers from Regrow Bloons count towards the pop count at an identical rate to any other bloon. Creating a regrow farm that can be defended for a substantial (or perhaps infinite) amount of time then will allow a player to easily obtain the required pops to unlock the desired towers. A cheap way to create a regen farm is to farm until round 42, then use a Downdraft Heli to knockback, and an Ice Shards alongside a Ring of Fire to clean up.
