User:BloonDom/Random Cool Things (RCT)/2: Druid: A History
Introduction
In this entry, I will talk about the Druid tower from Bloons TD 6, and how it may connect to the BTD5 Wizard Lord. This entry may not be as long, but it will be just as informative. Let's get to it.
Entry
So, the Wizard Lord. A tower exclusive to a BTD5 special mission that is also named after it. It has mechanics of the two Monkey Apprentice paths, but in addition to that it has to sacrifice towers or it will disappear. Pretty unique. Now we get to more interesting stuff.
Weirdly, in most of the Wizard Lord's internal file names, it is called the Druid. This could mean many things, but one thing it for sure means does is the Wizard Lord and its special mission were different at one point. With its file names, we can learn about some things it had:
- The
DruidHeadandDruidBodythat Wizard Lord's body is composed of probably means that the "Druid" tower's body was built the same way. - The
DruidCloudgraphic is the Wizard Lord's cloud, meaning that whatever the "Druid" was had the cloud too. - The
DruidHeaddeathanimation andDruidDiesound effect probably mean that the "Druid" also lived by sacrificing towers.
Don't have a lot to work with, but it's something, right? This tower sounds like it could been inspired by ancient Celtic culture druids, who also, interestingly enough, practiced human sacrifice. That could explain the ability the Wizard Lord gets out of nowhere.
And how does this relate to the Druid tower in BTD6, you ask? Well, let's pretend none of the aforementioned files except DruidCloud exist. That file sparks lightning, so it is possible that the BTD5 "Druid" tower centered around lightning. The BTD6 Druid tower took one of the Monkey Apprentice's path's powers when the Apprentice (Wizard now) left the previous game iteration. Guess what power that was?
Might be a little out there, given the 6 year gap between this "Druid" and the BTD6 Druid, but I believe that the BTD6 Druid is a new take on what was scrapped and replaced by the Wizard Lord. The tower with a strong relation to the Wizard/Apprentice tower and has a lightning path. The Druid's upgrades were completed fairly early in early BTD6 builds, so it is also likely that they were ideas for quite some time.
One more thing I would like to add is that the Wizard Lord has this unused description in the tower weapons file of BTD5 Flash:
No longer an apprentice, this monkey wizard has mastered the dark side and needs to absorb the tower with the most cash put in to it to survive.
Now, what could the BTD5 "Druid" tower have been? There's not much to go off of in this department. A take on a "higher tier" of the Tempest Tornado Monkey Apprentice upgrade? A special agent that would be unlocked through a mission? A tower not meant for a mission and not related to the Apprentice at all? So little answers, and too many questions.
Hope you enjoyed reading through this entry.
