According to Fandom's Trivia section:

• Monkeys are genderless as they are referred to by "it", both in-game and by Ninja Kiwi.
• According to Ninja Kiwi's 3rd June 2022 blog, there are monkeys in everything, no matter how small, and monkeys and non-monkey towers cannot move without special mobility such as Support Chinook, as each those towers are content with their own spots.
• According to Ninja Kiwi's 28th April 2023 blog, all Monkeys are given a choice to specialize as a specific tower type.
