Bloon layers are a central mechanic in most games in the series. Debuting with the Nested Bloon in Bloons 2, popping Bloons in the Bloons TD (series), Bloons Card Storm and Bloons Pop! generally yields a smaller Bloon. The Red Bloon is the only Bloon that doesn't spawn a smaller Bloon as it is the smallest. In these games (except for Card Storm), layers act as a sort of "health system" for earlier Bloons (up to ceramic), as these Bloons only have one HP. Higher damage attacks, such as the base Sniper Monkey, dealing two damage, will "skip" a layer, such as going from green straight to red. Additionally, in the TD games, higher tier Bloon layers are able to move faster.
