Damage is the process by which a Bloon, or in the case of the iOS version of Hot Air Bloon, certain bosses and the player, loses health and/or layers in the Bloons TD series, Bloons Supermonkey series, the iOS version of Hot Air Bloon, and Bloons Pop!. Damage is primarily dealt by projectiles or status effects.
Damage is often described in descriptive text as the amount of "layers popped", which, while not incorrect for most Bloon types, is inaccurate for Bloons with multiple points of health.
Layer skipping
[edit | edit source]
Layer skipping is when a tower deals more than 1 damage and skips layers. For example, if an unupgraded sniper pops a Zebra Bloon, since it does more than 1 damage (2), the black/white layers are skipped and only 4 Pink Bloons are left remaining. Layer skipping doesn't account for immunities (except in mobile games of the Bloons TD 5 Generation[fn 1]), so it can allow towers to pop Bloons with layers that would normally be immune to them. For example, when a Heavy Bombs bomb shooter pops a Lead Bloon, it deals 2 damage and can skip the black bloon layer it would normally be unable to damage.
Damage types
[edit | edit source]Damage types are a property of damage that determines which Bloons the damage can or cannot be dealt to. This concept was introduced in the mobile version of Bloons TD 5 and only appears in the Bloons TD series and Bloons Pop!, although similar mechanics exist in prior games.

Bonus damage
[edit | edit source]Some attacks deal bonus damage to Bloons that meet certain conditions. They can deal extra damage to:
- Specific Bloon types, such as Pat Fusty dealing extra damage to Ceramic Bloons
- Specific Bloon classes, such as MOAB Mauler dealing extra damage to MOAB-Class Bloons
- Bloon Mods, such as the Ascended Shadow dealing extra damage to Camo Bloons
- Bloons with certain status effects, such as Sauda dealing extra damage to stunned Bloons

Boss Bloons | In Bloons Pop!, some attacks deal reduced damage to Boss Bloons. In BTD6, MOAB Mine does reduced Boss Bloon damage. |

Ceramic Bloons | In BTD6, some attacks that deal extra Ceramic damage also apply to Dreadbloon's Ceramic Armor Shell, while others do not. For example, Deadly Precision does apply to the Ceramic Armor Shell, but Spiked Balls does not. This is never stated within the game itself and there does not appear to be a consistent pattern as to which sources of extra Ceramic damage do and do not apply to it. |

| This article is in need of research. You can help out by editing this article or discussing your findings on the talk page. The editor who added this notice elaborates: Is damage capped bloons like BTD6 Golden Bloon and Diamond Bloons count as "damage resistance" or another type of game mechanic? |
A Bloon with damage resistance will take less damage than normal. If an attack deals less than or equal to a Bloon's damage resistance, the Bloon takes no damage. For instance, Tier 2−5 Dreadbloon in BTD6 takes 1 less damage from all attacks.
Footnotes
[edit | edit source]- ↑ Some damage effects have the "Kill" status effect that ignores the child bloons' immunities.
