Spiked Balls is mediocre as a mid or late game cleanup. Before round 81, an unbuffed Spiked Balls is less cost-efficient than a base Spike Factory with Berserker Brew. Buffing Spiked Balls with Berserker Brew will make it more powerful, but this setup is so expensive for cleanup that it will delay any saveup. Therefore it is not a worthwhile option at all unless upgrading to Spiked Mines, which becomes the mid game carry itself. It also performs poorly against Super Ceramics, taking 1.5 piles (0.85 with Berserker Brew) to pop each one and costing much more than other options.
Spiked Balls is an expensive upgrade that lacks the pierce to justify it in the mid game, and in the late game it is less effective against Super Ceramics than supports of similar prices (e.g. Juggernaut, Icicles, and Bloon Impact). Spiked Balls is only serviceable as a transition to Spiked Mines, which is the mid game carry instead.

Both crosspaths have their own use cases. 3-2-0 is better if building into Spiked Mines, while 3-0-2 is more useful for defending multiple or intersecting exits.
3-2-0 is better on shorter maps and when covering only one lane, while 3-0-2 is more useful for defending multiple or intersecting exits.
