Dark Castle is an Expert map in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 5.0. It takes place around a castle in a barely sunlit landscape surrounded by a forest.

Layout

[edit | edit source]

Dark Castle has 4 entrances that largely converge into 1 exit. The entrances are covered by trees that make all Bloons immune while under them, and the trees can be removed for $1,000 each. There are relatively large amounts of open space for an Expert map above and below the convergent part of the map, in addition to water above and below the end of the track. The castle door at the end of the track opens at the start of every round and closes when the round ends, and Bloons start shrinking when they reach the door. The castle at the right is mostly blocked by line-of-sight, except for the ledge, which is at a higher elevation than the rest of the castle. The ledge can fit towers up to the size of Boomerang Monkeys.

Strategy

[edit | edit source]

Dark Castle is a very short map, with Red Bloons exiting in 10 seconds or less on all paths in Hard difficulty. However, the converging end of the track, the large amount of open space, and lack of line-of-sight blockers throughout most of the map allow for a wide variety of strategies. The short track and convergent lanes make Spike Factories on the castle at the right particularly useful. Dark Castle is by consensus the second-easiest Expert map, only after Infernal.

Name Portrait Reasoning
Perma-Spike The convergent exit of this map makes Perma-Spike function especially well, even considering the variety of towers that work on this map. It tanks leaks that are relatively easy to occur on this map due to its short length, and covers the weaknesses of many common strategies, such as Avatar of Wrath's against DDTs and the end of rounds. This map is an especially good place to obtain the Josh's Constant achievement by purchasing a 2-0-5 or 0-2-5 Perma-Spike in CHIMPS mode without discount villages.
Avatar of Wrath Avatar of Wrath functions well on this map, thanks to its convergent nature. It also benefits from a relatively smooth save-up, with 6 Poplusts saving up to Avatar of Wrath while needing little help. It functions best with the 0-1-5 cross-path, Stronger Stimulant, and MIB (for DDTs). Geraldo and Obyn are optimal heroes for Avatar of Wrath, with both granting solid buffs while having other utilities. Perma-Spike forms a formidable duo with Avatar of Wrath, with the former covering DDT rounds and the end of rounds, Avatar of Wrath's main weaknesses.
Primary Expertise The convergent exit means that all Monkeys should be placed around the same spot, allowing Monkey Villages to be highly effective. 5-2-0 is recommended, as Boomerang Monkey, Bomb Shooter, Tack Shooter, and Glue Gunner all struggle with Camo Bloon detection. Icicle Impale synergizes well, dealing high MOAB-Class damage and freezing Ceramics, along with its prior upgrades also being useful to catch Ceramics. MOAB Glue is helpful due to the short area of track that most Monkeys will actually be attacking, and Relentless Glue gets high value out of its stun because of the grouped together Bloons. Bomb Blitz also excels thanks to the convergent track grouping many Bloons together, and The Tack Zone, when placed under the track, will deal high damage as it is able to hit most of its tacks.
