Strategy
[edit | edit source]Large Calibre is not recommended for standalone use, as it performs less single-target damage than two Full Metal Jackets (which are cheaper) and being able to one-shot up to Zebras is not useful due to most early-game rounds having other Bloons. Therefore, it is only recommended as a crosspath for Tier 3+ Sniper Monkeys. Regardless, dealing 7 damage will pop normal Ceramics into swarms of Yellows if other towers don't partially damage them first.
Large Calibre is the superior crosspath for all bottom-path Sniper Monkeys against Boss Bloons (except Phayze, which demands middle crosspath) and when they cannot be placed so that they consistently shoot Bloons facing head-on to optimize shrapnel. However, when they can be placed in that way (e.g. Infernal's right island and Muddy Puddles's bottom-center portion), Large Calibre is the inferior crosspath outside of Bosses. For middle-path Snipers, Large Calibre is more expensive and generally weaker than bottom path's speed upgrades, but less demanding of buffs, however less synergetic with most external buffs and prevents Geraldo's Sharpening Stone.

Shrapnel: Damage increased ― 1 → 2
| “ | This tower felt like it’s strength too heavily required the xx2 upgrade, and that this harmed crosspath choices. So we increased the base attack rate while nerfing the increase from these upgrades. This is a slight overall buff — Update notes |
” |
Fire rate increased ― 2s → 1.59s
| “ | To retain value in more Lead-heavy situations including against DDTs, this upgrade that has always allowed Lead popping to main attack will now also grant this to the Shrapnel from any shrapnel shot snipers mixing in this upgrade — Update notes |
” |
- 2-2-0, 2-3-0, 2-4-0, 2-5-0
Now changes the damage type of shrapnel to Normal
| “ | Elite Sniper bouncing bullet jump distance has been reduced so that it can't quite bridge small track splits so easily, however to change up use this lost distance has been added back to crosspathing. Elite Defender falls off a lot after midgame & really lacks any true cross pathing choice, so it has had some MOAB damage added to the base attack with the amount improved from crosspathing. — Update notes |
” |
- 2-3-0
Large Calibre now increases bounce distance ― 40 → 50
- Note: Does not apply to higher tiers due to a bug
- 2-0-5
Large Calibre now increases Elite Defender's damage to MOAB-class by 1
- Deals +4 damage to MOAB-class overall (due to changes to Full Metal Jacket and Elite Defender's base stats)
| “ | Sniper is feeling really good, but Elite Defender gaining further increased MOAB Damage locked behind the 205 crosspath feels unnecessary now given how much current crosspath balance has started leaning towards favoring 205 anyway. — Update notes |
” |
- 2-0-5
Large Calibre no longer increases Elite Defender's damage to MOAB-class by 1
Overall damage to MOAB-class for this crosspath is unchanged (due to changes to Full Metal Jacket and Elite Defender's stats)
| “ | Sniper Monkey has some very powerful upgrades but also many poor stepping stones. We felt this tower needed a big price shuffle all around, pushing down the cost of many underwhelming upgrades but returning this back into stronger upgrades. — Update notes |
” |
Upgrade cost reduced ― $1,500 → $1,300
| “ | Lower tier Shrapnel crosspathing balance doesn’t feel great currently, so the damage crosspath benefits at T1 & T2 are improving. — Update notes |
” |
- 2-2-0, 2-3-0, 2-4-0, 2-5-0
Shrapnel: Damage increased ― 2 → 3
| “ | … and more on that now, the improved bounce distance crosspathing hasn’t ever been as useful as we hoped, so this benefit is being greatly improved. — Update notes |
” |
- 2-4-0, 2-5-0
Bounce distance increased ― 40 → 80
- Note: The intended bounce distance for this crosspath was 50, but it remained at 40 due to a bug
- 2-3-0
Bounce distance increased ― 50 → 80
