Volatile Bloon: Difference between revisions

I have used volatile bloon as a dreadbloon bait to some success, it's useful for casual runs but definitely not something you'd desire for competitive runs, imo

The Volatile Bloon is an Advanced Bloon card in Bloons Card Storm. If it is popped without hitting the opponent's Hero, it deals 100 damage to all other Bloons on both sides.

The card artwork depicts a Volatile Bloon exploding, spewing out magma fragments onto a nearby Red Bloon and Green Bloon. The Volatile Bloon itself is a glowing yellow-colored Bloon with magma fragments attached to it.

*At 3 Gold, a Volatile Bloon does more potential damage than any other combination of that cost, with exception of a fully grown Steady Growth Bloon or a Blooming Bloon with its offspring. However, it has only one charge.
*At 3 Gold, a Volatile Bloon leaking can do more damage than any other card combination of that cost, with exception of a fully grown Steady Growth Bloon or combinations of Nested Bloons. However, it has only one charge.
*In aggro, Volatile Bloon is really strong if its first draw occurs exactly between Rounds 1-2. Unless careful to avoid this Bloon getting popped, any competent anti-aggro strategy would neutralise an aggro player's bloon spam if this bloon is played alongside.
*Volatile Bloons can be used defensively. One can unleash instant global damage on demand using Bloon Melter for 5 cost, however the two card combo may be difficult to do. If the opponent uses Pre-emptive Strike, intercepting with Volatile Bloon guarantees the effect.
**Bringing Return to Sender can help in later early-game stages, by baiting the opponent to use all shots on Volatile Bloon in attempt to trigger the On Popped effect, and then removing it on the next turn.
*If using a Volatile Bloon, avoid playing Bloons if it is at risk of being popped, otherwise the Bloons on the player's side will also take damage.
**Volatile Bloon in Zee Jay aggro is beneficial; combined with his health buffs, not even four Dart Monkey Twins can fully pop that bloon alone.
*Human opponents may intentionally avoid damaging a low-HP Volatile Bloon to prevent the card's effect. This can be done by chipping its health to just low enough to leak it safely without allowing a defensive Hero to finish off that Bloon.
*Volatile Bloons can be used defensively. One can unleash instant global damage on demand using Bloon Melter, or Gwendolin's Fireball or It's All On Fire Now followed by Extreme Heat. If the opponent uses Pre-emptive Strike, intercepting with Volatile Bloon guarantees the effect.
**However, if facing a Quincy player with Volatile Bloon, Quincy may have Arrow Shots or Enhanced Reflexes to trigger a low-HP Volatile Bloon. Some other Heroes also have exclusive cards and abilities that can deal damage to their own Bloons.
*If using a Volatile Bloon, avoid playing Bloons if it is at risk of being popped, otherwise the bloons on the player's side will also take damage.
*Versus Dreadbloon, it has a tendency to destroy the Volatile Bloon, thus triggering it as another board clear. Volatile Bloon is suitable for casual decks, with its lower rarity being easier to unlock for newer players than most board clears, but not recommended in competitive decks.
*Versus Dreadbloon, Stage 3 Dreadbloon (i.e. "Board Destruction") in particular has a tendency to destroy the Volatile Bloon, thus triggering it as another board clear. As Dreadbloon's playstyle de-incentivizes Bloon-focused decks (except The Eternal), Volatile Bloon is suitable for casual decks, with its lower rarity being easier to unlock for newer players than most board clears.
**For consistency against Dreadbloon, the Volatile Bloon should be at the front of the queue.
**All stages have methods of destroying Volatile Bloon via cards. Wrath of Dread and Bombs Away are shared by all stages, while only Stage 1 has Pre-emptive Strike.
*Previously, Volatile Bloon was useful in aggro when played on exactly Round 1-2, however aggro has evolved enough that Volatile has become outclassed by other aggro options.
