*Monkey Star is a worthwhile tradeoff for most defenses, but not always an advantage, due to some towers not favoring extra range, extra cost worsening upgrade progression, and the bigger footprint always being a major downside. However, the significant damage and range bonus is worth it for making early-game easier to handle. Base tower value is usually preferred.

**Extreme late-game options favor footprint over anything else unless the support or damage gained is signficant enough to warrant more footprint. While [[VTSG]] is one of the strongest possible DPS towers to receive this buff, this tower's DPS gain is insignificant compared to the footprint that would be taken by [[Bloonjitsu (BTD6)|Bloonjitsu]]s and [[Shinobi Tactics (BTD6)|Shinobi Tactics]].

**The base towers for Ace, Engineer, Buccaneer, Heli, and Boomerang are solid choices for the Monkey Star in the early game. A free Dart Monkey can be used instead if getting an income snowball is more important than the few hundred dollars spent for defense.

**For specific Heroes, the best candidates include Quincy and Sauda. Some Heroes such as Gwen can be considered if the Hero buffs and other utilities are less important than the main damage. Avoid on Psi and Benjamin.

*Without Powers or certain Perks, the Monkey Star can only realistically be a tower or Hero that's affordable on the first round, unless doing some early round leaks before the first tower.

*Heroes with important leveling thresholds, such as those that grant innate camo detection or pop a specific Bloon type, may find this Perk harder to use.

*This Perk synergizes with [[Heroic Start]] if the player makes their Hero the Super Star, since it effectively doubles the XP that Heroic Start gives.
