Rapid Reload is the Mortar Monkey's path 2 tier 2 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It further reduces the attack cooldown of the tower (compared to Faster Reload) by 28%, in other words increasing the attack speed by approximately 39%.

Strategy

Rapid Reload is generally not used by itself, and is instead relegated to being a stepping stone to its succeeding upgrades or a crosspath. As a crosspath, it is optimal with Signal Flare, as the reliability coming from Rapid Reload's extra attack speed is key to Signal Flare. With other top and bottom path Mortars, Rapid Reload is generally recommended as a crosspath on maps with multiple simultaneous entrances and very short maps, where reliability becomes more important, but not recommended for other maps.

Mortar’s Faster Reload feels like a ‘required’ as a crosspath with Burny Stuff never scaling well on any path but it’s own. We like choices not requirements so to counter this we have made Burny Stuff scale with top-path damage & shifted a small amount of the speed from Faster Reload onto the base mortar and reduced base accuracy considerably.

Fortunately this change led to the community finding some critical bugs in the middle path upgrades there since Mortar’s release! That said, since low tier Mortars were never powerful we chose to leave the speed buff from last update but revert the accuracy nerf.

We’re looking to shakeup mortar in a couple small ways this update, along with Striker Jones changes noted further on for ‘multi-mortaring’ synergy. From the base level Mortar has far more pierce than should ever be necessary at low rounds but doesn’t hit beefy enough for the low fire rate, so we are trading up some base pierce for damage, instead moving this lost pierce up into crosspath.
