Submerge and Support is the Monkey Sub's path 1 tier 3 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. When purchased, the Monkey Sub gains the Submerge targeting option which can be toggled every 0.5s. When submerged, the Monkey Sub stops its usual attacks, and instead creates an aura in its range that periodically removes the Camo property of Bloons inside it. This decamo aura deals no damage, activates every 1.5 seconds, and has a pierce of 100.

The aura can be upgraded with crosspathing. Twin Guns causes the aura to decamo more often, and Barbed Darts increases its pierce. Heat-tipped Darts and Airburst Darts provide no further benefit to a submerged sub.

Strategy

Submerge and Support is a solid de-camo tower, being cheaper than all other options other than the pierce-deficient Counter-Espionage. Despite dealing no damage while submerged, it's overall favorable; this avoids stealing from bloon-based income generators such as Bloon Trap, while not demanding external camo detection. It works the best when placed so that its radius covers the entirety of a bend and it can de-camo reliably. However, when playing on maps without bends or with multiple far-apart lanes, Submerge and Support's utility falls off. Due to its lack of constant de-camo, it is also generally not sufficient by itself against DDTs, which remain as Camo for up to 1.5 seconds, a period of time that would otherwise be valuable for other towers to deal damage.

To maximize its value, un-submerge it on rounds without Camos to utilize its main attack. 3-0-1 is the optimal crosspath, greatly enhancing the de-camo pulse's reliability against fast Bloons. Airburst Darts is not needed due to it not increasing the pulse rate, but it is useful when a strong early-game tower is desired. Middle crosspaths aren't much help at T3 (but good for Bloontonium Reactor's damage to groups), because its decamo already has fair pierce. While Submerge and Support's ability to disable its main attack by being submerged has been valuable in 2 MegaPops when a good early-game tower that does not steal pops later on is desired, Adasaurus and Barracuda have superceded it in this role.

Similar types of camo reveal like Shimmer/Signal Flare/Embrittlement are all pierce limited, but the Submerge sub has practically infinite pierce while also being extremely cheap with a very fast rate and a T4 that is far better at camo removal than those other towers can reach. Giving this upgrade a more reasonable pierce value brings these more in line and allows for the pierce crosspath to have some potential meaning.

We have come back a number of times to add, fix & balance sub crosspathing, over years of learning though it currently feels messy and we’d like simplification. Heat-Tipped Darts doesn’t increase base sub pierce, so it feels silly to require it for maximum pierce on Submerged subs. Likewise Airburst shouldn’t be required to maximize the rate of submerged subs, instead we’d rather give people an easier way to work with the Airburst attack if they desire to upgrade to it so ‘Submerge’ is moving to a new Tower Special rather than target priority.
