Since receiving various nerfs to its latch uptime, attack speed, and damage, the Megalodon has lost its specialty as a Boss Bloon destruction specialist, now being only roughly similar DPS to M.A.D at max Power for a high cost, in addition to its water requirement and limited range. Power 132 Megalodon remains powerful in many game modes that require both high single-target and grouped damage, but neither it nor Power 36 are good enough any more to warrant use in deep Freeplay. Regardless, its high cost and downtime still prevent it from being a viable tower for CHIMPS.

The high cost of Megalodon makes buffs, especially Overclock, highly valuable. When selling is enabled, the 3 additional Orcas required for purchasing Megalodon can be sold with Favored Trades and replaced with Great Whites, which are far more efficient for merging into a Power 132 Megalodon. Use of 7 additional Orcas is only necessary when tower maxes are insufficient and a Power 132 Megalodon is required, but is not worth it for how much investment versus power gain is obtained.
