Bloontonium is a resource found in Bloons Card Storm, Bloons Pop!, and Bloons Monkey City. It often serves as an in-game currency, except in Bloons Card Storm, instead as a gameplay resource.
In Bloons Card Storm, bloontonium is used for Hero abilities, some of which activate passively, while others consume bloontonium. Bloontonium can be earned from playing bloons or from certain card effects, and spent for certain cards that require Bloontonium. In Bloons Pop!, bloontonium is used for creating Bloonstones, while in Bloons Monkey City, bloontonium is used for sending Monkey v Monkey attacks.
Bloontonium is also mentioned in the name of some upgrades throughout the series, even in games without it as a resource, such as Bloontonium Reactor in the Bloons TD series.
Mechanics
Bloons Card Storm
Bloontonium is an in-game resource for Heroes, which can be used to redeem certain abilities and cards. Bloontonium is gained from playing Bloons or certain Power cards. Heroes each have a specific limit to how much they can store, and Bloontonium persists across turns.
Bloons Pop!
Bloontonium is a currency earned by completing levels, by clearing bloons and popping Bloontonium Bloons in Golden Bloon Time, completing certain Goals, or from certain Adventure rewards. Bloontonium's sole purpose is filling up Bloontonium canisters, which upon reaching 500 bloontonium, will take 4 hours before producing a random amount of Bloonstones. One canister is unlocked immediately, another requires 400 Monkey Money, and the final canister requires a purchase with real money.
Bloons Monkey City
Bloontonium is a resource required for sending attacks in Monkey v Monkey, and like other resources can be refilled with Bloonstones. Without the proper amount of Bloontonium, it is not possible to send MVM attacks for free.
Bloontonium behaves slightly differently between versions. On the Flash version of Bloons Monkey City, Bloontonium has specialized production and storage buildings that must be built to facilitate the flow of Bloontonium in order to send attacks. Attacks consume a different amount of Bloontonium depending on the attack's strength value, and players have the choice to send tougher or weaker attacks. The player can spend Bloonstones to collect enough Bloontonium to send an attack if the player's current reserves do not match the strength of the attack, at a ratio of 1:40. The rounding depends on when it is spent - if it is before attacking it rounds up, otherwise it rounds down.
On the Mobile version, Bloontonium is listed as a percentage, and is automatically generated and stored by the Bloon Inflation Factory and when the player reaches 100% Bloontonium, the player is allowed to send an attack. There is no choice for how much Bloontonium to spend, outside of Revenge attacks consuming 20% less bloontonium (with the Revenge Stick) for the same effect. The player can also fill their Bloontonium reserves to 100% at the cost of Bloonstones, at a 1:2%, rounded down.
