Fishing Spots are special tiles in the Frontier Legends DLC for Bloons TD 6. They allow the player to play a minigame to catch fish, which convert to Bananite when caught.

Mechanics

The editor who added this notice elaborates: Fish movement mechanics

When the player enters a Fishing Spot, they can choose one of three fishing rods to cast in the water. Once a fish bites, the player enters a minigame consisting of a vertical box where the fish moves up and down, with the player needing to press or release the Reel In! button to keep a small window on top of the fish. While the fish is on the window, the bar next to the fish fills up, but if the fish goes outside the window, the bar empies. If the player fills the bar, they successfully catch the fish and earn Bananite depending on its value, but if the bar fully empties, the fish escapes and the player earns nothing. Each fish caught has a random weight, which determines its Bananite value. There is also a small chance for a fish to be "SHINY", which increases its Bananite value.

There are multiple kinds of fish that can appear. Each type of fish has a different movement pattern in the minigame. There are also trash items, which are functionally identical to fish aside from having very little Bananite value. The types of fish that appear depend on the fishing rod the player uses. The player can unlock more rods by purchasing them from the General Store in Sandytown. The player can see their collection of previously captured fish, and the game keeps track of the heaviest one the player caught for each one.

The player can also earn a black border for a fish by catching it a certain number of times depending on their rarity, which is indicated by the type of frame in the Collection menu:

  • Wood frame: 200
  • Bronze frame: 100
  • Silver frame: 50
  • Gold frame: 25

Trivia

  • Some elements of Fishing Spots seem to be references to other games:
    • The fishing minigame is very similar to the fishing minigame in Stardew Valley.
    • The chance of fish being SHINY seems to be a reference to Shiny Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise, which similarly has a fishing mechanic.
