Super Ceramic Bloons (Super Ceramics for short) are modified versions of Ceramic Bloons that appear in several games in the Bloons TD series, starting in Bloons TD 5. They are not a separate Bloon type, instead being a state all Ceramic Bloons change into when playing on late-game rounds. They have extra health and, in some games, give more cash and/or experience after popping the Ceramic layer. They are otherwise visually and functionally identical to ordinary Ceramic Bloons.
In most Bloons TD games, in order to reduce lag, all non-MOAB-Class Bloons only spawn one child Bloon when popped on later rounds. The purpose of Super Ceramic Bloons is to compensate for the reduced RBE and cash value of these Bloons. This mechanic and Super Ceramic Bloons do not exist in Bloons Adventure Time TD, however.
In Bloons Blitz, the Super Ceramic is instead a Boss Bloon, while regular Ceramic Bloons do not appear.
Mechanics
[edit | edit source]Super Ceramics appear in the Flash version, multiplatform version, and console version, but not Bloons TD 5 Deluxe. They have 38 health instead of the usual 10.
In the mobile version and console version, all Ceramic Bloons become Super Ceramics while in freeplay, regardless of the game mode (meaning they are always active on Apopalypse and Deflation, and start appearing after the designated final round on other modes). They generate $80 when popped (before income cuts), including any of their child layers if popped at the same time as the Ceramic layer; for example, popping all nine layers of a Super Ceramic in a single hit earns $720 at base. The Ceramic layer and all its child layers only earn one XP each (before the XP cut on rounds 70+).
In the Flash version, Ceramic Bloons become Super Ceramics starting on round 86, regardless of freeplay rules. Popping the Ceramic layer earns $95 and 95 XP (before XP and income cuts), while its children earn the usual cash and experience amounts.

In Contested Territory, Ceramic Bloons become Super Ceramic Bloons starting on round 31. In the multiplatform version, all regular Bloons continue to spawn multiple children on these rounds, while in the Flash version, they only spawn one child Bloon each, like in BTD5. They have 38 health instead of the usual 10.
Ceramic Bloons gain a mutation to become Super Ceramic Bloons starting on round 81. They have 60 health instead of the usual 10 (120 instead of 20 when Fortified) and give the equivalent of $87 when the Ceramic layer is popped instead of $1 (the actual amount of cash depends on the round, since later rounds reduce cash per pop). Since all non-MOAB-Class Bloons only spawn one child Bloon starting on round 81, Super Ceramic Bloons only spawn one Rainbow Bloon, that Rainbow Bloon only spawns one Zebra Bloon, that Zebra Bloon only spawns one Black Bloon, and so on. Leaking a Super Ceramic Bloon costs 65 lives (75 if Fortified), which is less than their actual RBE (68 and 128, respectively).
Ceramic Bloons become Super Ceramic Bloons starting on round 30. They have 60 health instead of the usual 10 (180 instead of 30 when Fortified).
Trivia
[edit | edit source]- The first official use of the term "Super Ceramics" was in update notes for the Flash version of Bloons TD Battles in 2014.[1]
