Instead of darts, it fires missiles that produce multiple explosions that pop any Bloon type. Each missile does zero damage and consumes 2 pierce every time it hits a new target, creating an explosion that deals 1 damage, has 7 pierce (10 with 0-3-2), and 8 blast radius. The missile itself has 7 pierce, creating explosions up to 3 times. Only its explosions can gain extra pierce. The additional explosion per missile collision has a cooldown of 0.0375 seconds, preventing explosions from hitting exactly the same spot.<!--b2popology: "HRP can only reapply every 0.0375s"-->
When crosspathed with Laser Shock, the shock only is applied by the missile, and does not do extra shocked damage. Powerful Darts increases pierce of missile and explosions by +3, which adds two extra explosions plus an extra 3 pierce per explosion.<!--btdb2 no blast bonus-->

Hydra Rocket Pods is a consistent method of popping groups of Bloons, but has an expensive upfront cost. It is Dartling's best way of dealing with Lead Bloon, as Laser Cannon is vulnerable to Purple Bloons. Hydra Rocket Pods has a great synergy with damage buffs, being an excellent option when paired with Benjamin's Biohack and Berserker Brew. It can still be overwhelmed during the mid-10s rounds by baiting Hero abilities and Tower Boost and then finishing up with a layered rush, until the opponent is able to afford Rocket Storm to save the other abilities.
Hydra Rocket Pods is expensive to buy, so it should be delayed as soon as possible. Round 10 Leads can be a problem for Dartling loadouts. If using other towers with better group-popping, such as Ice Monkey with its Ice Shards upgrade, use those instead to substitute Hydra Rocket Pods. Use Hydra Rocket Pods in strategies such as Dartling-Engi-Farm. If using a cheap lead-popper, such as Alchemist, it might be useful to temporarily buy that first before the Hydra.
The 1-3-0 crosspath is vastly preferred for the better consistency of shots along straight lines, with 0-3-2's pierce bonus not giving enough benefit to warrant the erratic shots.
