The console version of Bloons TD 5 is a port of the PC port of the multiplatform version of Bloons TD 5 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Through backwards compatibility, the Xbox One version is also playable on Xbox Series X and Series S, the PS4 version is playable on PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch version is playable on Nintendo Switch 2. This version features local Co-op and changes to the interface and controls to make the game playable on a gamepad. The Nintendo Switch version released a year later and has more content ported from the mobile version, though all of these releases are missing content that was added to the mobile version in later updates.
Differences from the mobile version
[edit | edit source]| This section is incomplete. You can help out by expanding it. The editor who added this notice elaborates: Needs a full list of features in the mobile version that are not in the console version |
The console version is based on the PC ports of the mobile version and features the same changes to the game's economy (such as double Monkey Money and purchasable Premium Upgrades). This version also has the following differences:
- All tracks are wider and rendered at a 16:9 aspect ratio. This notably means there is more space for Temples, allowing for higher rounds in freeplay.
- Only English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish are supported.
- The Mystery Parcel has been removed and all of its contents are unlocked through other means:
- The Monkey Sub is unlocked at rank 23.
- Ice Flow is unlocked by scoring at least one win on an Easy track.
- Challenger Deep is unlocked by scoring at least one win on an Intermediate track.
- All events except Daily Challenges and Odyssey mode are absent.
- Some upgrade names are shortened to fit the new UI:
- Banana Research Facility is shortened to "Banana Research".
- Banana Investments Advisory is shortened to "Banana Investments".
- Monkey Intelligence Bureau is shortened to "M.I.B.".
Differences between releases
[edit | edit source]- The Xbox One and PS4 releases are based on version 3.5 of the mobile version, while the Nintendo Switch release is based on version 3.9. As such, only the Nintendo Switch release includes Rabbit Holes and Snowy Backyard.
- The Xbox One and PS4 releases launched without Odyssey mode or local Co-op. On 19 July 2017, both platforms received an update adding local Co-op and a free downloadable add-on titled Bloons TD 5: Odyssey Mode that enables Odyssey mode. In the Nintendo Switch release, both features are included in the base game.
- Online Co-op requires an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass Core account in the Xbox One release, while the PS4 release requires a PlayStation Plus account.
- The Xbox One and PS4 releases support achievements. The PS4 version has an exclusive Platinum Trophy titled "Monkey Master" that is unlocked by earning all 47 other achievements.
Unused content
[edit | edit source]- The Golden Bloon, Boss Bloon, Totem Event, Egg Hunt, and (on Nintendo Switch) Bloonvasion events all exist in the game's data, but cannot be accessed.
- Localization files for Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Russian, Swedish, and Turkish exist, but are unused and unaltered from the mobile version.
