Alternate notation for crosspaths

[edit source]

I know it's not commonly used, but Tx/Mx to describe Top Primary/Middle Secondary, Mx/Tx to describe Middle Primary/Top Secondary, etc. could reduce confusion involved in cases like this with newbies, in addition to having the site feel less robotic since it stops being all numbers.

BTW, since this place exists, I'm guessing you're not happy with Fandom. My experience with Fandom involves me having been subjected to draconian punishment by its staff because of the politics of a single community that ACTIVELY enables a sexual assailant who had been proven guilty and actively called out, and undermines any attempt to take away said sexual assailant's megaphone. I locked the "Kanbei's Error" page on the Advance Wars Wikia to stop a bite of misinformation by the sexual assailant from spreading, but when these communities exist and limit what I can do to fight back, when Fandom also wants to take the side of the sexual assailant's enablers, and when certain people don't give a damn about what I do to combat that and get so needlessly hostile toward me, I think it's fair to bring this up.

Thank you for your time. MasterKnightDH (talk) 15:48, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Upgrades are laid out differently in the console version, so I'd prefer a notation system that doesn't call them the top/middle/bottom paths. And yeah, I hate Fandom with every fiber of my being and I think the Bloons fanbase deserves better than the existing wiki that's run by people who don't know what they're doing. If you're a fan of Advance Wars I'd recommend joining Wars Wiki instead.
Also, how did you get here? I started this site a month ago and I've only given the URL to a few people. I'd hate if Google is already indexing it since I was hoping to get the site in a more presentable state before going public. polavux 21:08, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I'm merely suggesting for an available alternative, one that would be more interested in laymen's terms. "A 501 Sniper" could come across as grammar mishandling and could lead to a newbie thinking to get 501 Snipers. "A T5/B1 Sniper" can be inferred as the 5th top path upgrade and 1st bottom path upgrade with little difficulty. I'll grant that "Tx" could refer to the given tier of any path, but a simple solution of parentheses would solve this anyway. I obviously use the notation myself in my own works and this would include Blog Posts should that aspect be permitted here, but I figure that even if the involved pages weren't locked, I may as well bring it up here.
About the Advance Wars stuff, Wars Wiki is insufficient because it refuses to allow coverage of things like translation patches, never mind that the Japan-only entries of the series, most notably Super Famicom Wars and Game Boy Wars 3, are reliant on translation patch support and whatnot to get anywhere. That place doesn't suffice in the least. I can talk more about this in private if you're interested since I don't want to say everything in public. I'm "masterknightdh" on Discord if you want to talk to me there. I'd be able to explain quite a bit more and answer any active Qs you may have.
As for how I got here, I did find this place by Google search, but I was actually searching for what people had to say about Rosalia's Adrenaline Rush because my goodness is that aspect undertuned, and I'm wanting to look into how much Alchemist buffing influences her performance. People just aren't talking about AR a lot, so I ended up finding Rosalia's page here because of that. I guarantee that people will still be looking on the Bloons Wikia right now for stuff that's not (however unintentionally) niche discussion material, but the fact that I'm finding this place at all when you're still setting up is a good sign of this place having a solid chance at winning the SEO war.
At any rate, I can provide my 2 cents on the overall situation. Hopefully, we can at least get Fandom held accountable for things like siding with the blatant enablers of a known and proven sexual assailant. MasterKnightDH (talk) 22:06, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've never seen that notation in my life, and I've been in the Bloons community for over a year. Something like "5-0-1 Sniper" would still make sense to console players and avoid the "get 501 Snipers" confusion. mothwiingz (what's up?) 07:10, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Abuse filter trigger

[edit source]

When I try to create a category, I get this error:

This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Creating a category without any parent categories

However, I'm already creating them with categories: for example, Category:Tier 2 upgrades with Category:Upgrades in it. I've tried refreshing the page and using a different browser, but I'm still blocked from creating them. Scrooge200 (talk) 04:11, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I changed the filter. Can you try again? polavux 04:20, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've tried again on different browsers, but I get the same error. Scrooge200 (talk) 06:46, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
It should be working now, I tested it on my bot account. Your browser shouldn't be affecting how it works. polavux 07:13, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Editing Templates

[edit source]

Hi Polavux

I found a mistake in the template but can't find the source for the template. The mistake was in the Ascended Shadow Update History where not removing camo should be a buff as it gives global camo and does more damage to camo bloons.

In the FAQ it said to edit it from the source. Where do I find that? DiamondNether90 (talk) 20:12, 20 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

This wiki

[edit source]

hello Polavux, I am reaching out to see if you could tell me what you used to make this wiki, is it stored straight on your own computer and you just made the site from scratch, is it a Microsoft Azure cloud storage setup and you just used their media template? I am trying to create a wiki similar to this and that's why I'm asking, any help is appreciated. 74.78.104.229 06:50, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

The site is hosted on a DigitalOcean droplet running Ubuntu 24.04. Instructions for setting up MediaWiki on one can be found here. polavux 06:57, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Userpage cleanup

Since you already made User:Polavux/Collection Event (BATTD) and User:Polavux/List of merchandise as real articles, should these be removed from your page? Qwertyxp2000 (talk) 09:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Bullseye

[edit source]

Is the ability Bullseye disabling Splodey Darts and Frozen Throwing Knives real or fake? Evanbear2486 (talk) 16:21, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. For future reference, you should ask these kinds of questions on the related talk page instead of other people's talk pages, so it's easier for other people to find and answer them. polavux 23:29, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

About Your Redirect

[edit source]

Why did you redirect Oasis to Oasis (disambiguation) as of 8 August 2025? 2601:640:CC02:7600:E14E:E28A:AF99:6AEE 02:52, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Reply to me pls 2601:640:CC02:7600:E14E:E28A:AF99:6AEE 02:56, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Because there's two different subjects named "Oasis" (Oasis (BTD5) and Oasis (Battles 2)). If someone searches "Oasis" without an identifier, it makes more sense to redirect them to a disambiguation page so that person can pick the page they're looking for.
