This game has two lite versions: '''''Bloons Lite''''' and '''''Bloons Lite+'''''. Both lite versions were released a few months after this game, and mechanically are the same, but lack the Golden Bloon minigame and the level editor, and only feature levels ported from the {{flash version of|Bloons}}, ''[[More Bloons]]'', and ''Even More Bloons'' instead of original levels.

===Golden Bloon===
The Golden Bloon makes its first appearance in ''Bloons iOS'', where it bears very little similarity with its appearance in later games. The Golden Bloon minigame involves popping bloons by tapping them to rack up points, with a 60 second time limit. Bloons fill up the screen in an 8x4 pattern and cannot occupy a space held by another bloon, so the screen will eventually fill up if the player does not pop any bloons. Popping a bloon of the same color earns progress towards a combo, awarding points equivalent with the amount of bloons squared once the combo expires. Combos expire when the player pops a different color bloon or if 3 seconds pass without popping any bloon. If the player does not start a combo, the bloon awards a singular point. The golden bloon itself appears every few seconds, can spawn beneath another bloon, but will vanish after 2 seconds. Popping the golden bloon will end any combo and award 101 points for popping it. The high score is saved locally, letting the player compare their score with their previous best.

Bloons (also called Bloons iOS to distinguish it from the original and emphasize its exclusivity on iOS), also referred as The Original Bloons for Mobile or Bloons for iPhone[4], is a mobile game in the Bloons series that was first announced on the Ninja Kiwi Blog on 2nd March 2009.[5] It is based on Even More Bloons, but remade in a new engine with 150 levels, most of which are unique. It is the basis of Bloons Festive Fun, which uses the same engine and most of the same graphics.

This game has two lite versions: Bloons Lite and Bloons Lite+. Both lite versions were released a few months after this game, and mechanically are the same, but lack the Golden Bloon minigame and the level editor, and only feature levels ported from the Flash version of Bloons, More Bloons, and Even More Bloons instead of original levels.

Gameplay

[edit | edit source]

Bloons and its two lite versions follow the puzzle conventions established in previous games: the player controls a monkey that must pop a certain amount of Bloons with a limited amount of darts. This monkey can aim darts in any direction, and darts can be thrown with more power, letting them travel faster and further. The game features the same mechanics, obstacles, and bloons as Even More Bloons, excluding the Chomper Bloon. This means that unlike the flash version of Bloons and More Bloons, the monkey can throw darts rapidly, which is a mandatory mechanic for some levels. Levels are completed in order, as beating a level unlocks the next level, but the player can start playing through different level packs without needing full completion of the previous pack.

Unlimited Darts

[edit | edit source]

The player can toggle Unlimited Darts, which makes the monkey consume no darts, but any level completed with this option will be indicated with a dart icon. Completing a level without Unlimited Darts will remove the dart icon from a level, indicating that the player completed the level without Unlimited Darts.

Golden Bloon

[edit | edit source]

The Golden Bloon makes its first appearance in Bloons iOS, where it bears very little similarity with its appearance in later games. It is unlocked by completing the first level pack, but completing the second or third pack before the first will not unlock this minigame.

Level editor

[edit | edit source]

Unlike most Bloons games, this game features an offline level editor built into the game. The level editor lets the player save 50 of their own custom made levels. The level editor lets the player place any tile or bloon in any applicable location, and adjust the amount of darts, position of the monkey, and the amount of bloons required for beating a level.

Official resources

[edit | edit source]

Ninja Kiwi released official walkthroughs for the first and second level pack of Bloons iOS, encompassing the first 100 levels. On 18 May 2009, the official walkthrough for the first level pack was posted on the Ninja Kiwi Blog, split up into 5 parts.[6] Soon after, on 24 May 2009, the walkthrough for the second level pack was posted on the Ninja Kiwi Blog, likewise split in 5.[7] It is unknown if Ninja Kiwi released a walkthrough for the third level pack. They also made a video for Under the Lid, but did not make any videos for other levels.
