Shrapnel Shot is the Sniper Monkey's path 2 tier 2 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. With this upgrade, each shot from the Sniper Monkey emits 5 shrapnel projectiles from behind the target in a 45° angle spread. Each shrapnel projectile deals 1 damage, +2 damage to Camo Bloons (inherited from Night Vision Goggles), and can pop up to 2 Bloons. Shrapnel does not deal damage to the target initially hit by the bullet.

Crosspathing with the top path increases the shrapnel's damage, grants them Normal-type damage, and allows them to apply a weaker version of the Maim MOAB and Cripple MOAB effects. In addition, crosspathing with Full Auto Rifle and Elite Defender will make shrapnel deal 2 damage.

Strategy

Shrapnel Shot makes Sniper a viable group-popper at long distances. It makes the Sniper's position more important, since the direction the Sniper faces determines the direction of the shrapnel. For the best results, the Sniper should shoot against the grain of the pathway that Bloons travel on, causing the shrapnel to hit Bloons behind the target to maximize pierce. Depending on crosspathing, both Strong and First are good targeting options.

Lower-tier Shrapnel Shot excels against groups of Camos during early-game. Notably, with Full Metal Jacket, it is one of the cheapest ways to deal with groups of Camo Leads.

This tower felt like it’s strength too heavily required the xx2 upgrade, and that this harmed crosspath choices. So we increased the base attack rate while nerfing the increase from these upgrades. This is a slight overall buff

Trading off rate of fire for shrapnel crosspath doesn’t work well for Maim MOAB as it’s all about being a stall tower, so instead of focussing on a damage increase here the shrapnel will now apply the benefits of the sniper’s stun & debuff to turn this crosspath choice into a question of preference in grouping vs single target.

We’re hoping that applying the MOAB bonus that it gains to the shrapnel as well will help improve non-meme use here. (And looking over my notes, it seems this was meant to be included a while ago…But better late than never!)

Lower tier Shrapnel crosspathing balance doesn’t feel great currently, so the damage crosspath benefits at T1 & T2 are improving. (we’ve also increased shrapnel pierce at this tier to not tip crosspath balance too far to one side).
