Heroes are a game mechanic in Bloons Card Storm. They are one of two components of a deck, the other being cards, and remain in play during an entire match. Each Hero starts with 500 health and comes with three abilities, with each ability having a different effect and requiring a different amount of Bloontonium to activate. The objective of the game is to reduce the health of the opponent's Hero to 0, primarily by playing Bloon cards to attack them.
Mechanics
Hero Abilities
All Heroes have three Hero Abilities. Each ability requires the Hero to have a certain amount of Bloontonium to be used. The third ability always costs as much Bloontonium as the Hero's maximum Bloontonium. There are two types of abilities:
- Active Abilities are triggered manually by the player, and consume Bloontonium equal to their Bloontonium requirement when used. If an Active Ability displays a target icon, it requires the player to target something in order to use it, and it cannot be used if there are no targets.
- Passive Abilities remain active as long as the Hero meets the Bloontonium requirement. Their effects are applied automatically.
Exclusive cards
All Heroes have cards that can only be equipped to them. Cards that can only be generated by specific Heroes, such as Zee Jay's Rad Bloons, are also treated as exclusive cards. Hero Alt decks can equip the same exclusive cards as the Heroes they are based on, though they are not able to use exclusive cards that are only obtainable with the base Hero's Hero Abilities (for example, Mountain Obyn, a Hero Alt of Obyn Greenfoot, cannot use Wolves because they can only be created by Obyn Greenfoot).
Levels
Winning matches with Heroes earns Experience that goes towards their Hero Level, which unlocks rewards. Each Hero has their own Hero Level rewards track. All Heroes have the same XP requirements and the same level-up rewards, except for the Card Backs and the Master Hero Cards that unlock at level 10 and level 15, respectively.

Voice lines
All Heroes (except Boss Heroes and Striker's Adventure-exclusive Heroes) have voicelines, which can be toggled by volume in the Settings menu. Heroes may respond to events in the game. If the hero has multiple voicelines for a certain event, a random two-digit number is selected among the sound files. Most sound files for the Hero voicelines are formatted as <hero><sfx-category><two-digit-number>, or <hero>VoicePack<two-digit-number><sfx-category><two-digit-number> if the voiceline comes from a Voice Pack.
| Condition | Name of voiceline(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Unlocked / selected | Select | Select occurs when Hero is unlocked, or when selected in a new deck. There are always 2 separate sound files for Select. |
| Starting a match with different heroes | Greeting | Upon starting a match with non-identical Heroes, the player's Hero greets the opposing hero, and vice versa. The voice line for Greeting plays in sequence with both heroes. There are always 2 separate sound files for Greeting. |
| Starting a match with identical heroes | MirrorGreeting, MirrorReply | Upon starting a match with identical Heroes, the player's Hero greets the opposing hero with MirrorGreeting, and the opposing hero responds with MirrorReply. There are always 2 separate sound files for MirrorGreeting, and 2 separate sound files for MirrorReply. |
| Victory and Defeat | Victory, Defeat | Victory is triggered if the player wins by depleting the opponent's lives to 0 or less, or the opponent surrenders, disconnects, or decks out. Defeat is triggered if the player loses. These conditions only trigger for the player's hero. Both Victory and Defeat each have 2 separate sound files. |
| Positive/Negative Reaction | Positive, Negative | Positive plays if the opponent's hero takes more than 250 damage in one turn. On the other hand, Negative plays if the player's hero takes at least 250 damage in one turn. These reactions were added in Version 2.0, although previously hidden in the game's code. Both Positive and Negative each have 2 separate sound files. |
| Damage | Damage | Damage plays every time the hero takes damage; it will not play if the damage is blocked by Hero Protection or Corvus Academy of Arts. The hero will usually grunt or express pain. There are always 4 separate sound files for Damage. |
| Abilities | Ability | Ability voicelines are formatted as <hero>Ability<ability-number><two-digit-number>. Each ability voiceline always has 2 separate sound files. |
| Hero Card | HeroCard | If a Hero-exclusive card is activated, HeroCard plays. There are always 2 separate sound files for HeroCard. |
| Laughing | Laugh | Laugh is currently exclusive to Amelia the Amazing, but it is unused. There are always 4 separate sound files for Laugh. |
| Text Emote | Emote | Text emote voicelines are formatted as <hero>Emote<emote-name><two-digit-number>, with all possible emote names being GoodGame, NicePlay, GoodLuck, Thanks, Thinking, Waiting, RNG, and WhatHappened. Each text emote voiceline always has 2 separate sound files. |
