Frontier Legends will be released as an paid in-app purchase in Bloons TD 6. It is officially priced at USD$12.99[4], though the actual cost will depend on the platform and region.

The story starts with the Sheriff waking up at Boulder Falls alongside its pet companion Arny the armadillo and decides to go for a stroll where he finds Scout being threatened by a Bloon and rushes to help by telling them to hide on the grass so the Bloon can't see them, after that Sheriff escorts Scout back to Sandytown but their path is blocked by some boulders, so Sheriff lures a Dynamite Bloon and makes it explode to clear the way.
Back in Sandytown they hear a scream coming from Mr Mayor who is nearby sealing some of Scout's banana cookies and tells Sheriff and Scout that Bloons are attacking the town, then he flees taking the cookies with him so Scout chases after him, leaving Sheriff alone to deal with the Bloon problem so they team up with some residents to defend the town. After the Bloons are defeated, Mr Mayor and Scout come back and Mr Mayor gathers the entire town to appoint Sheriff as the new sheriff of the town disregarding Sheriff's input in the matter.
After that, the Sheriff gets used to the town by visiting its Homestead and the Saloon and then is called by Mr Mayor who assigns them a task to go capture some fish as he is participating in a fish population study done by the Monkey Knowledge Society and gets a small compensation for every captured fish that he agrees to split with the Sheriff.
After returning to Mr Mayor, Scouts asks Sheriff to go with them to check on some Bloons causing problems in Boulder Falls, there Sheriff teams up with a Desperado called Quickshot Dirk to defeat those Bloons all across the area.
Characters
Sheriff
Sheriff, the player character of Frontier Legends, is a Monkey whose home was destroyed by Diamondback, and is later appointed as the new Sheriff of Sandytown by the Mr Mayor. The Sheriff works to protect the town and track down Diamondback. While battling Bloons, the Sheriff acts as a special tower with unique abilities. The sheriff can change their hat, suit, weapon and consumables, each of which have different effects on the attacks and abilities of the tower in battle.
Diamondback
Diamondback is a Boss Bloon who serves as an antagonist in the story. It is a Bloon composed of several segments visually inspired by the feathered serpent deities from Mesoamerican religions and as a conglomerate boss, it is mechanically inspired by Bloons Supermonkey 2. This Boss Bloon focuses on challenging the pierce of the defensive setup and uses deliberate attacks which causes the boss to debuff itself.
Scout
Scout is one of the inhabitants of Sandytown, he is the first resident of the town that Sheriff encounters and helps them to adapt to their new life in Sandytown.
Mr Mayor
Mr Mayor is an old Monkey and the Mayor of Sandytown. He wears a top hat and a suit and he is fond of banana cookies and will even go as far as stealing them from other Monkeys.
Game setting
Frontier Legends takes place in an semi-open world setting comprised of Sandytown and 15 connected areas to explore, with some of them resembling maps from BTD6. While in-game, the player controls Sheriff and can move freely across the hexagonal tiles which compose the world, while followed by a pet of their choice.
Some of the locations include:
- Beach
- Boulder Falls
- Boulder Rapids
- Cornfield
- Monkey Meadows
- Encrypted
- Sulfur Springs
- Sunset Gulch
- Windy Peaks
There is also a day-night cycle in the game.
Sandytown
Sandytown is a small town which serves as the hub area of the game. The Sheriff can talk to its residents, walk into its Homestead to rest and recover stamina, swap equipment, change their in-game name or pet companion, or check on their Posse members. The Sheriff can also enter the Saloon to recruit new Towers and Heroes.
Game mechanics
Movement
Players can move Sheriff freely in the map by clicking/touching on their desired destination, Sheriff can walk over most of terrain types and hide from Bloons in the grass. The game will tell the player their current objective in a banner in the top central area of the screen, clicking on the sparks button next to it will reveal a sparkling trail which points out to that objective which is usually a specific hexagonal tile which shines with a giant sheriff badge floating over it, moving Sheriff to that tile will activate it and progress the story.
Posse
Posse are the members of the Sheriff's team, recruited at the Saloon in Sandytown in exchange for currency. Posse members are primarily used in battle against Bloons. The members can be regular custom-named towers with certain upgrades applied or Heroes at a specific level.
The posse is limited to 6 members and it can even include multiple Heroes if the player has enough Deputy Stars. The players can have up to 25 total Monkeys that they can swap in and out of the Posse at the Sheriff's Homestead or at a campfire, this limit can be increased by buying Homestead renovations at the General Store.
Each Posse member has a series of one to three passive buffs called traits which are selected at random and the player can review them before recruiting. Traits can have a wide variety of buffs, from stat boosts, the ability of popping certain types of Bloons and even the ability to summon friendly Zombie Bloons. However there are also negative traits that have a prejudicial effect like reducing the amount of Bananite earned.
Bloons
Quick Draw events
Wild Bloons wearing cowboy hats wander around the map and will either attack or flee from Sheriff when they spot them, when the player collides with one, Sheriff has several options that depend if the Bloon was chasing of it was fleeing, indicated by a crosshair or a three lines icon above the Bloon, respectively:
If the Bloon was chasing:
- Run!: Sheriff will lose a certain amount of Bananite and Posse will also lose some Stamina. The Bloon disappears afterwards.
- Distract!: Similar to Run! but the player loses a Fake Wallet instead, if they have any.
- Fight!: Starts a Quick Draw minigame (see details below).
If the Bloon is fleeing:
- Let It Go!: Effect unknown.
- Fight!: Starts a Quick Draw minigame.
Bloon Enconters
Some of the Bloons in the map will instead start a game of BTD6 when approached, indicated by three Red Bloons moving around a specific tile in the map. The necessary battles to progress to the story will have the floating sheriff badge, otherwise they are classified as a "Side Mission", and can have a much higher difficulty than the current encounters in the story.
These games play as a regular game of BTD6 with a predetermined set of rounds in a map whose theme aligns with the current location (for example, a game is played in Middle of the Road when the player is in Sandytown). The only Towers available for the game are Sheriff and the active members of their Posse plus possibly other pre-placed characters depending on the story. There is also a retreat mechanic for deployed towers, but its effect is currently unknown. Map mechanics that normally depend on cash like removing line of sight blockers, now cost a reduced amount of Bananite instead.
On these games, sometimes the game will spawn a group of the new special type of Bloons alongside the regular spawns but the player will be warned by a "Reinforcements Incoming" banner in the top right of the map. There are six exclusive types Bloons that can appear, each with their own effect:
- Dynamite Bloon: If not popped quickly they can cause explosions that stun nearby Towers and pop other Bloons caught in the explosion radius. They release 2 Black Bloons and 3 Regrow Red Bloons when popped.
- Glass Bloon: Bounces back some projectiles.
- Diamond Bloon: Affects high-damage attacks.
- Aura Bloon: Provides a buff to other Bloons.
- Retribution Bloon: Can retaliate attacks.
- Ringleader Bloon: Provides a defensive shield to nearby Bloons.
After clearing a Bloon battle, the players can replay it but in a later set of rounds, for example if the story game was from rounds 1/20, the replay can be on rounds 16/25.
Stamina
Stamina is a mechanic which represents the energy of each Posse member through a percentage meter. When a Tower is placed its Stamina is reduced by 8% and goes down further for every round that passes, equal to its upgrade tier (0-0-0 towers lose 1 Stamina per round and crosspaths does not count) and persists through battles. As the stamina meter goes down, the tower's attack speed is decreased, an icon with a purple cloud effect will appear over the Tower when its Stamina drops below 25% and the Monkey cannot be placed down on a new game if it reaches 0%. Stamina can be recovered by waiting at a Campfire or, if in Sandytown, at the Sheriff's Homestead.
Campfire
While exploring, the players can encounter campfires where they can restore lives immediately and stamina passively for all Posse members, but the recovery is limited to a certain amount. They can also fast travel to any other campfire the player has encountered before by selecting it the world's map and can also switch between day and night settings by clicking on the Rest button (it does not have an effect on the Stamina recovery). The last campfire visited also serves as a checkpoint in case the player is defeated in battle.
Map
In the campfire, players can consult a map of the world, it will indicate the names of areas the player has visited, the location of the current objective, campfires, fishing spots and cave entrances.
Bananite
Frontier Legends features a banana-shaped currency called Bananite which can be used to recruit Posse members, upgrade them or buy items at the General Store.
Bananite is earned by collecting them from banana-shaped crystals scattered across the world, winning rounds and clearing battles against the Bloons (regular pops don't earn cash) and by capturing fish. If the player is defeated in battle they will also lose a small amount of their Bananite upon respawning at a campfire.
Consumables
To help the Sheriff and their Posse, player can buy consumable items from the General Store or find them on chests. The currently known consumable items are:
- Old Key
- Health Potion
- Stamina Potion
- Glue Trap
- Tech Bot
- Pontoon
- Portable Lake
- Super Monkey Storm
Mini-games
Frontier Legends offers several mini-games which offer rewards such as Bananite.
Quick Draw
After encountering a Wild Bloon and decide to fight it where the player is presented with a minigame which consists of timing the press of button a button labeled Shoot! when a crosshair which moves left and right in a straight line automatically passes over some Bloon-shaped targets, if they succeed they will win some Bananite and pop the Bloon.
Fishing
In selected spots across the world, the Sheriff can throw its fishing rod to try to capture some fish that can be exchanged for some Bananite. The mini-game consists of a vertical box where the fish moves up and down and there is a window where the player needs to keep the fish in and is controlled by a Reel In! button. While the fish is on the window, a bar next to the fish will start to fill and the fish will be captured if the player fills it, afterwards the player is rewarded with a some Bananite depending on the value of the capture.
There is also the possibility of capturing useless items which are barely worth anything. Less useless items and more rare fish can appear by buying upgraded fish rods at the General Store in Sandytown.
The player can also see their collection of captured items and fish, and the game keeps track of the biggest one by weight. Some of the possible items seem to have a count like 1 / 200, its purpose is currently unknown.

|---|---|---|
| Banana Peel | 200 | Some monkey already ate it. |

During one of the promotional videos, the presenter that the players could capture the "True Sun Cod"[5], it is currently unknown if it is an actual fish in the game or just a joke.
Pre-release
Ninja Kiwi announced Frontier Legends in the update notes of version 47.0, where it was originally named Desperado Legends. It was described as a "highly stylized and replayable" adventure and was planned for release in the middle of the year, in the same year as Runic Legends.[3] As the name suggests, it was planned to release alongside the Desperado, but the DLC was delayed until the end of 2025 to allow more content to be added to Rogue Legends, and it was renamed to Frontier Legends to separate it from the Desperado.[6]
In version 47.0, in addition to the release of Rogue Legends, the menu for Legends had a second page teasing Frontier Legends with an image of a cowboy hat on a cactus. In version 49.0, the image and description were changed to give more details about Frontier Legends.
During November 2025, Ninja Kiwi released a series of teaser videos on YouTube and TikTok:
- On 2 November 2025, Ninja Kiwi released a short teaser video titled "Travel to the Frontier, Enjoy the View, It's perfectly safe!"[7] It features a location named Boulder Falls, a monkey character with Rosalia's Border Collie Pet, Kora following them, and an objective named "Find the monkey in trouble".
- On 5 November 2025, Ninja Kiwi released a second teaser video titled "Enjoy Monkey Meadows!" revealing a location named Monkey Meadows, an interface for the fishing minigame, and an objective named "Talk to Scout".[8]
- On 12 November 2025, a third teaser video titled "Enjoy a late night stroll!" was released showing the monkey strolling around a stylized version of the altar in Encrypted with Geraldo Pack Mule Pet with a barely visible Black Bloon with a white hat moving outside the altar.[9]
- On 16 November 2025, the fourth teaser was released titles "Explore the Windy Peaks!" which features a Monkey exploring a platform at top of some mountains followed by Ice Monkey Snowman Pet, while walking a campfire is visible and after reaching the edge of the platform the player can see the valley below with a windmill and some cabins.[10]
- On 20 November 2025, the fifth teaser titled "Relax on the Beach" showing a Monkey waling in a beach, this time followed by Dad of Quincy, a fishing spot, a group of 3 Red Bloons near a shipwreck and a treasure chest are visible along the path, a different shipwreck similar to the one in Off The Coast is also visible.[11]
- On 24 November 2025 a sixth teaser video titled "Explore our idyllic town!" was released[12], this time with a longer duration where it is revealed that the narrator of the previous videos is an old monkey resembling Dr. Monkey which is the Mayor of some small town naming you the new Sheriff, then the Mayor presents the cornfields which feed the town, then the scene cuts to the town where the Sheriff walks along some Monkeys and some of them open a small text box when approached, then the Sheriff enters to its homestead, which is a menu where the player can change the appearance of the Sherrif and its Pet, check on the members of its Posse and see items in a "Collection" menu. Then, the Sheriff exits and heads towards the Saloon (see details below). Back in the town, the Sheriff walks towards the exits of the town is and one is blocked with some Bloons wearing hats moving in the other side, finally, the Sherrif moves to another exit and upon reaching a loading zone, a pop-up with the title "Frontier Express" asks the player if they wish to move to Boulder Falls (the location of the first teaser).
All previous teaser trailers feature a grainy film texture and a heavily desaturated filter, resembling an old film reel, with western-inspired music in the background. The narrator places suspiciously heavy emphasis on stating that walking in these locations is "perfectly safe".
Also on 12 November 2025, Ninja Kiwi posted on Reddit a preview of the recruiting system while asking for western-themed names[13]; it shows a Saloon with several Tower models and a stylized NPC Monkey. The recruit menu shows the Towers in the Saloon as "Hands to Hire" where they can be recruited by paying a certain amount of Bananite. Additionally, "Ranch Hands" and "Heroes to Hire" menus are also available but were not shown in the teaser. Each Tower has a given name, a bar that resembles some kind of energy and three "Traits" which seem to be passive buffs that that hire possesses which include dealing extra damage, pop specific types of Bloons or setting them on fire. The available towers can be refreshed by waiting 10 minutes or by paying some Bananite.
The Saloon was also shown 24 November 2025 teaser video, this time the names of the Towers available now feature one of the traits that the Monkey has, for example "Molasses Colt" has the Molasses trait and "Feeble Luciano" has the Feeble trait and the number of traits on the monkeys is reduced from 3 to 2 and the refresh time was increased to 30 minutes in comparison to the Reddit teaser.
After the teaser videos, on 24 November 2025, a full trailer video was uploaded titled "Your Guide to Frontier Legends" showing the core game mechanics such as the Homestead, the Saloon and the Campfires, free roam movement and the first footage of a Bloon battle showing Sheriff as a Tower and one of the new Bloon types.[5]
