Footprint

Footprint is the amount of space that a tower uses when placed in a map. In the Bloons TD games, this game mechanic can limit the type, amount and location of towers that the player can use as part of the map difficulty, where easier maps usually have more open spaces to place either larger or higher amount of towers, and difficult map can restrict them, even to the point where certain towers cannot be used at all.
When purchasing a new tower, the player must make sure to have enough open space to place it beforehand, as a new tower cannot override the one that is previously placed, in this case, players can remove the towers that use the desired space, usually by selling them.

In Bloons TD 6, the majority of towers have a circular footprint, with a few exceptions, listed on the table below.
| Tower | Radius |
|---|---|
| Sub-towers | 0 |
| Beast Handler's beasts | 2 |
| Geraldo's placeable items
(Shooty Turret, Paragon Power Totem, Creepy Idol, Genie Bottle, Rare Quincy Action Figure) |
3 |
| Banana Farmer, Tech Bot, Energizing Totem | 5 |
| Dart Monkey, Tack Shooter, Ice Monkey, Glue Gunner, Sniper Monkey, Ninja Monkey, Alchemist, Rosalia (sub tower) | 6 |
| Boomerang Monkey, Desperado, Bomb Shooter, Monkey Sub, Dartling Gunner, Wizard Monkey, Druid, Engineer Monkey, Beast Handler, Cave Monkey, Battle Cat!, All Heroes (Except Rosalia, Captain Churchill, Pat Fusty) | 7 |
| Monkey Buccaneer, Mermonkey, Spike Factory, Captain Churchill, Pat Fusty | 8 |
| Monkey Village, Mortar Monkey, Super Monkey | 11 |
| Monkey Ace | 18 × 28 (rectangle) |
| Heli Pilot | 27 × 40 (rectangle) |
| Banana Farm | 30 × 30 (rectangle) |
| Sun Temple, True Sun God, VTSG | 37 × 40 (rectangle) |
Some maps can have areas where players can place towers where they visually wouldn't fit (e.g. the altar in Encrypted) and in the other hand, there are also places where towers that can fit are restricted, for example, Heli Pilots cannot be placed in on the top right section of Erosion, but Banana Farms can despite having a larger footprint.
