Mountain Obyn is a Hero Alt of Obyn Greenfoot introduced in version 5.0. He costs Monkey Money 2,000 Monkey Money to unlock.

Mountain Obyn is a more offensive Obyn that can also summon Sentinel Bloons. He has three active abilities:

  • Summon Sentinel — Creates a Sentinel Bloon, a Bloon with the Must Pop property, and deals 30 damage to the opponent's Hero when popped but does no damage if leaked.
  • Rise! — Places brambles on all the opponent's Bloon spaces (in order of first space to last space), which deal 25 damage to all enemy Bloons at the end of the opponent's turn and disappear at the start of the player's next turn. Brambles replace any Acid Pools on the opponent's side, and Acid Pools replace brambles if placed after its activation. Activating this ability again in the same turn replaces all brambles and Acid Pools with new brambles.
  • Summon Dire Wolf — Adds a Dire Wolf to the player's hand. Dire Wolves deal more damage than the ordinary Wolf and do splash damage.

Overall, Mountain Obyn is somewhat versatile for many playstyles. His strongest archetype is midrange. Outside of aggro, most Mountain Obyn players strive to build Bloontonium quickly to build Dire Wolves as soon as possible for their high splash damage. Sentinel Bloons can provide pressure by diverting Monkey attacks and chipping Hero Health, making it suitable for burn decks. His favored maps include Bloontonium Refinery, due to the extra starting Bloontonium, and Badlands, which increases effectiveness of Sentinel Bloons as finishers. Rise is beneficial for dealing with large amounts of Bloons at once, and may help leverage a few turns before getting another Dire Wolf.

Mountain Obyn's favored cards are similar to those from Obyn, however, Mountain Obyn's lesser Shield sources mean he is not compatible with passive control decks. Howl is pretty strong, however for him it is weak in the early-game due to his slow Dire Wolf production.

  • Unlike normal Obyn, Mountain Obyn has fewer ways to generate Shield. Use his Wall of Trees and Nature's Clarity for shield, and versus Storm Pinks use Rise to lower their HP.

Development

[edit | edit source]

Version 6.2 playtesting focused on nerfing his Sentinel Bloons, with a Bloontonium cost increase by 1 for the Sentinel ability to limit spammable use, as proposed by Ninja Kiwi[1] Rise was initially proposed to be nerfed to cost 1 more Bloontonium,[2] then reduced to 6 by Ninja Kiwi,[2] and finally given a damage reduction by feedback from community testers.[2] Dire Wolves were seen as strong by some players, but community playtesters were against nerfing it, citing its various weaknesses to single targets and requiring large investment.[1]
