Ninja Kiwi Europe, formerly known as Digital Goldfish, is a software company founded in Dundee, Scotland in 2004. It was originally focused on mobile games, but has expanded to include PC games. It is one of the two main developers of many Bloons video games alongside its parent company, Ninja Kiwi.

In 2004, David Hamilton and Barry Petrie founded Digital Goldfish with the goal of developing mobile games targeting the female market.[1] In 2005, they released their first game for Java phones called Babygrow, which required a purchase at an unknown price. They subsequently worked on a new version that was never released.[2]

In March 2009, Ninja Kiwi announced that Digital Goldfish will work on porting the iOS version of Bloons, Digital Goldfish's first Ninja Kiwi-related game.[3] They then continued working on numerous other iPhone titles, many of which were iPhone or iPad versions of existing Ninja Kiwi games. After years of making mobile versions of Ninja Kiwi games, Ninja Kiwi purchased Digital Goldfish for an undisclosed sum in 2012.[4] The company officially renamed to Ninja Kiwi Europe on 26 March 2013.[5]

Technology

Light interface to Ninja Kiwi,[6] or LiNK for short, is the proprietary account system created by Ninja Kiwi, which has been used since the release of the multiplatform version of Bloons TD Battles in 2013. It supports cloud saving of game progress and friend lists, and can be linked to other services such as Steam.

BTD4Framework / NewFramework

BTD4Framework is the internal name of the codebase used in Bloons TD 4. It was created to unify the codebases of the iOS and Android ports of BTD4, which originally ran on separate game engines.[7] A heavily modified version of this framework, internally named NewFramework, is the engine of the mobile versions of Bloons TD 5, Bloons TD Battles, Bloons Monkey City, Bloons Supermonkey 2, and SAS: Zombie Assault 4, as well as the console version of Bloons TD 5, and a further heavily modified version is the engine of Bloons TD Battles 2. The only games developed by Ninja Kiwi Europe since BTD4 that do not use NewFramework are Bloons Adventure Time TD and Zombie Assault: Resurgence, both of which use Unity instead.

Additionally, Ninja Kiwi Europe assisted in testing Bloons Card Storm[11] and some updates to Bloons TD 6.[12][13]
