Difficulty formula

Tiles

The difficulty of a tile depends on its distance from the center of the map, its terrain, its track, and a small amount of randomness.

My Tracks

The difficulty of a track played from My Tracks depends on the city's City Level, the track, and the difficulty level the player chooses. The difficulty of the terrain is ignored.

Difficulty levels

The difficulty of a track can be rated as "Trivial", "Easy", "Medium", "Hard", "Very Hard", or "Impoppable" depending on its difficulty value relative to the city's City Level. In the Flash version, if a non-MVM track has Camo Assault or Regrow Assault, the difficulty level is increased by 1 tier, though the actual difficulty value does not change.
