Discount

Discount is a game mechanic in the Bloons TD series, which by definition is the reduction in the cost of towers and/or upgrades. Certain discounts can be the full amount. Most sources of discounts require a tower to be within range to gain the benefit.
The new cost after discount depends on the game's rounding system.

Starting in Bloons Tower Defense 2, the Easy difficulty reduces the costs of towers and upgrades by a set percentage as compared to the base amount. This cost reduction is applied before all other discounts. Starting from Bloons TD 4, Medium has a 100% price, which strangely enough is 102% in Bloons Tower Defense 2 and Bloons TD 3.
Discount buffs were introduced in Bloons TD 5 with the Monkey Village, which reduces the cost of towers and upgrades purchased in its range by 10%. BTD5 also introduced Specialty Buildings which discounts a specific type of tower by 5%, and increases the cost of a different tower by 5%.
Bloons TD 6

Bloons TD 6 introduced many more discount sources. Some of these apply a percentage change in cost, while others apply a flat decrease. Many discount sources only apply to certain towers or upgrades. Placement and upgrade costs, aside from purchasing Hero levels (which rounds to the nearest 1), are always rounded to a multiple of 5.
Discount percentage buffs
editIn BTD6, buffs to discount percentage stack additively with each other. For example, Monkey Business and discount tiles on One Two Tree both increase discount by 10%. Therefore when a purchase is affected by both, its costs are reduced by 20%.
If a discount percentage is 100% or higher on a tower or upgrade, it may be obtained for free; Primary Mentoring for Tier 1 upgrades of Primary Monkeys and Monkey City's free Dart Monkeys are examples of this. Unless otherwise stated, multiple towers granting identical discount percentage buffs do not stack.
Paragon upgrades and Geraldo's Shop items cannot be discounted by these buffs. Purchasing Hero levels cannot be discounted by these buffs, except for Scholarships. In Rogue Legends, party members cannot have their placement cost discounted.

Discount buffs from different Sun Temples can stack if they are different amounts. For example, towers receive a 30% discount percentage if they are in range of a Sun Temple with $2,000 in Support sacrifices, and another Sun Temple with $50,000 in Support sacrifices.
Price percentage adjustments
editSome discounts apply by changing the base cost of towers and upgrades, rather than applying a buff. Unlike buffs, these stack multiplicatively with discount percentage buffs and with each other. They can affect the prices of Paragon upgrades, Geraldo's Shop items, and Hero levels.
| Source | Percentage | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 85% | Relative to Medium. |
| Hard | 108% | Relative to Medium. |
| Impoppable | 120% | Relative to Medium. |
| Aeronautic Subsidy | 90% | Only applies to tier 5 Monkey Ace upgrades. |
In Custom Challenges, the Impoppable property overrides the price adjustments by the game difficulty.
Flat price reductions
editSome Monkey Knowledge upgrades reduce the cost of specific towers or upgrades by a flat amount. These price reductions apply after adjustments from game difficulty, but before discount percentage buffs.

Bloons TD Battles 2
edit| This section is incomplete. You can help out by expanding it. The editor who added this notice elaborates: Add a similar structure to the BTD6 one but add BTDB2 stuff |
Bloons TD Battles 2 has a similar variety of discount sources as BTD6, but with certain new sources. Rules for determining discounts is the same as in BTD6; rounding placement and upgrade costs to a multiple of 5, with exception of Heroes which round to the nearest 1, and discount sources may apply flat or percentage buffs that may affect certain types of tower.
