Heroes are the main characters in Bloons Blitz. Similar to Monkeys, each Hero has a main attack that they use to pop nearby Bloons automatically, and they have 19 upgrades, but they have some notable differences. The player starts each run with their chosen Hero and controls the Hero directly, while other Monkeys join the team during the run and are not directly controlled. Bloons only target the Hero, ignoring Monkeys, and the Hero loses one health each time a Bloon touches them. The Hero starts with 5 HP and the run ends if they run out of health. Additionally, only the Hero can pick up collectibles, activate Encounters, and trigger evasion. A Hero can have up to 10 upgrades per run instead of just 5, and instead of having an upgrade that grants Monkey XP (since they do not have Monkey XP), they each one has a hidden tier 4 upgrade accessible by choosing two specific tier 3 upgrades (for example, Quincy's Triple Tricks can only appear if he has both Splitting Shots and Triple Shot).

Outside of a run, the player can unlock new Heroes and level them up by spending toys. Each Hero has nine toys (five Common, three Rare, and one Epic), and each level requires different sets of toys. They have similar level-up bonuses to Monkeys, except their stat buffs apply to the whole team instead of themselves, and they also unlock additional sticker spaces at some levels. Each Hero has their own sticker notebook and starts with different spaces blocked off.
