Fishing Spots are special tiles in the Frontier Legends DLC for Bloons TD 6. They allow the player to play a minigame to catch fish, which convert to Bananite and some Stamina when caught. The player enters the minigame by choosing a fishing rod to cast in the water, then waiting a short time between 3 and 15 seconds for a fish to bite.
The minigame consists of a vertical box where the fish moves up and down, with the player needing to press or release the Reel In! button to keep a small window on top of the fish. While the fish is on the window, the bar next to the fish fills up, but if the fish goes outside the window, the bar drains. If the player fills the bar, they successfully catch the fish, but if the bar fully empties, the fish escapes and the player earns nothing. Each fish caught has a random weight, which determines its Bananite value. There is also a small chance for a fish to be "SHINY", which increases its Bananite value.
There are multiple kinds of fish that can appear. Each type of fish has a different movement pattern in the minigame. There are also trash items, which are functionally identical to fish aside from having very little Bananite value. The player can see their collection of previously captured fish, and the game keeps track of the heaviest one the player caught for each one. The player can also earn a black border for a fish by catching it a certain number of times.
In addition to the moving pattern of each fish, their speed also determines the overall difficulty of the minigame and there are a few things that can change it. First, the heaviest fishes are faster: the ones in the 80th to 95th percentile are 15% faster and those between the 95th to 100th percentile are 25% faster. If Sheriff uses the Waders body equipment, the speed is reduced 5%. And finally, shiny fish are also 30% faster than their regular counterparts.
Fishing rods
[edit | edit source]There are 3 types of fishing rods the player can choose from. Higher-tier fishing rods have better chances of capturing higher-tier fish. The Regular Fishing Rod is given to Sheriff during the story, while the Great and Legendary rods must be bought from the General Store in Sandytown.

Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Some elements of Fishing Spots seem to be references to other games:
- The fishing minigame is very similar to the fishing minigame in Stardew Valley.
- The chance of fish being SHINY seems to be a reference to Shiny Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise, which similarly are obtainable through a fishing mechanic (among other methods).
