Contested Territory (BTD6)

Contested Territory is a fortnightly event in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 32.0. During this event, players compete with their team in a match against five other teams to gain points by capturing and controlling tiles on a hexagonal board. At the end of the event, players and teams receive rewards based on the amount of points they have relative to other players and teams in their match. If Competitive Mode is enabled, players and teams additionally place on global leaderboards.
On the Contested Territory board, each tile has a challenge and a scoring system associated with it, and can be captured by completing its challenge as well as beating the current owner's score, if any. Over time scores on tiles degrade, tiles stop generating points, and eventually tiles turn neutral again if not recaptured by any teams.
Contested Territory uses a ticket system to limit the number of tiles each player can capture per day. Players gain four tickets every day, and can only attempt a tile if they have at least one ticket. Tickets are not spent until and unless the player captures a tile. All of a team's unused tickets at the end of a day get put into a pool and may be used by players on the following days.
Schedule
Contested Territory usually starts every other Tuesday at 22:00:00 UTC and ends the following Tuesday at 22:00:00 UTC, lasting 7 days in total. Because of this, the schedule alternates between this event and Boss Rush every week. Exceptions to this schedule are possible, such as when a major update is about to be released, which leads to the event being postponed or delayed.
For competitive oriented teams, they must sign up 24 hours before Contested Territory starts. After this signup period closes, any new team members cannot receive personal tickets.
Mechanics

Game board
Contested Territory is played on a game board between six teams. The game board is a hexagonal grid consisting of hexagonal tiles, with sides eight tiles long. Each corner tile is permanently controlled by one of the six teams, gives no points, and cannot be captured. All other tiles start out neutral.
At the start of each event, each team in a match is assigned a color, which is one of red, yellow, blue, green, pink, or purple. A team's color is random and may change week-to-week. The tiles on the game board are also randomized every event, although every board instance in a single event shares the same set of tiles.
Tiles
Capturing tiles is the central mechanic in Contested Territory. Players may only attempt to capture tiles which share a side with a tile their team owns, including their starting corner square.
Challenges
| This article is in need of research. You can help out by editing this article or discussing your findings on the talk page. The editor who added this notice elaborates: What is the possible range of challenge modifiers? |
Each tile contains a challenge which must be completed in order to capture it, as well as a scoring system. Owned tiles may only be captured by beating the owner's current score on that tile; tied scores result in no capture. The scoring systems are as follows.
- Least Cash: players are scored based on the total amount of cash spent during the game. This includes tower purchases and upgrades, and paying to remove objects or use gizmos.
- Least Tiers: players are scored based on the number of upgrades they purchase, plus the number of towers placed. This does not include sub-towers.
- Boss: players are scored based on how fast they can defeat one or two tiers of a Normal boss. These scores are timed the same way as in Ranked Boss Events. This is the only challenge that is not available on Regular tiles.
- Race: players are scored based on how fast they can complete all rounds in the challenge, and are granted the ability to send rounds early before all Bloons in a round are destroyed. These scores are timed the same way as in Race Events. Relics which grant use of a Power may not be used on Race tiles.
Every tile's challenge is randomized, including the map and modifiers, and typically restricts the use of many tower types and heros. No specific upgrade restrictions are used. Insta-Monkeys, Double Cash, and Fast Track are always banned.
Measures are in place to ensure tile challenges can always be completed; for example, there is guaranteed to be at least one tower with the ability to damage Lead Bloons and Camo bloons. Water oriented maps have a more likely chance to generate with water based towers, and maps without water cannot spawn water based towers.
Some heroes are banned based on the tile type, which includes the following:
All heroes are able to be used on Race and Boss tiles.
Types
There are three types of tiles in Contested Territory.
- Regular tiles grant 20 points per hour captured, and allow the use of Monkey Knowledge. Regular tiles can never be Boss tiles.
- Relic tiles grant 10 points per hour captured, and grant the use of some specific relic to all players on the team of the player that owns it. Monkey Knowledge is disabled on Relic tiles.
- Banner tiles grant 40 points per hour captured. Monkey Knowledge is disabled on Banner tiles.
Each game board has 24 Relic tiles and 24 Banner tiles, with the rest being Regular tiles. Since there are more than 24 Relics in the game, every event has several Relics that are unavailable.
Focus markers
Mayors and vice-Mayors can set focus markers on up to four tiles that team members can see on the map as well as in the team messages.
Tile scoring
| This section is incomplete. You can help out by expanding it. The editor who added this notice elaborates: More specific: how much do tiles degrade |
Each tile grants a certain amount of points per hour to the team who owns it depending on the type of tile it is. Players also gain individual points for tiles they capture with a personal ticket.
After 24 hours elapse since a tile is captured, it stops giving points but stays in the possession of the capturing player. Relic tiles still provide use of their relics when in this state. Tiles which are not providing points are marked on the board with flashing green down arrows. After 72 hours elapse since a tile is captured, it becomes neutral and must be captured again for a team to claim it.
The score set on a tile degrades starting 5 hours after capture. As the score degrades, it becomes worse and worse over time making it easier for other teams to capture.
Tickets
Every 24 hours, each player gains four personal tickets. Players may only attempt the challenge on a tile if they have a ticket, but attempting challenges does not cost any tickets. Instead, tickets are only consumed if a capture attempt is successful.
Team tickets
After 24 hours, a team's unused tickets are put into a "team ticket" pool (which has a total pool of 30 tickets) which all players on the team may use on the following days. Each player may use up to six team tickets per day until no tickets are in the pool.
Relics
Along with Boss Rush, Contested Territory is one of two ways by which players may access Relics. Relics are items which grant players special bonuses and abilities such as gaining lives or cash, or limited free use of a Power.
If a team controls a Relic tile, all players on that team may use that Relic on any tile they attempt. Players may only use up to four Relics gained from Relic tiles at a time.
In addition to Relics gained from Relic tiles, Contested Territory has Shop Relics which may be purchased for CT Trophies. When purchased, all players on the team have that Relic enabled on all tiles they attempt. Three of these Shop Relics are only available after some time passes in the event: one is unlocked after 24 hours, 72 hours, and 120 hours after the event start. There is also a Daily Power Relic, which changes daily and is one of the Relics that grant use of a Power. The Daily Power Relic must be purchased again every day in order to use it. The daily power relic costs 200 Team Trophies, while the shop relics cost 400, 600, and 800 by order of availability.
Teams
Joining a team is mandatory to enter Contested Territory. Teams can contain up to 15 members including a Mayor, who acts as the leader of that team. Mayors and assistants can also mark tiles on the board with a pin to signify importance.
Contested Territory and Boss Rush are the primary ways to gain Team Trophies to spend on cosmetics. Team Trophies can be used to customize your team's island and profile with team flair, which will show up on the team's island within the event.
Leaderboards
Teams and players are ranked based on 4 leaderboards, which all count the highest CT points in the bracket.
- Global Teams: All teams are ranked.
- Global Players: All players are ranked. Note that using a Team Ticket does not increase personal score.
- Local Teams: The 6 teams within a local fight are ranked.
- Local Players: Players within the 6 teams of the local fight are ranked. Note that using a Team Ticket does not increase personal score.
A player may qualify for rewards from all leaderboards provided they have contributed to them.
Rewards
Players are given a daily bonus of Team Trophies for entering Contested Territory every 24 hours. Players are also given 100 for every personal ticket used, up to a total of 400 for all personal tickets used. Tiles also provide additional Team Trophies and Monkey Money based on the tile type.
Additionally, after about 2 hours past the end of the event, rewards for all team members are distributed according to their placements on the four leaderboards. Global leaderboard rewards are not given out to Casual oriented teams.

Strategy
Contested Territory can be played solo but preferably as a team to take full advantage of tile captures and backup plans versus other rival teams. In general, aim for the Banner tiles for the most score, get certain powerful Relic tiles to make it easier to secure scores on contested tiles, and capture Regular tiles otherwise. Certain rulesets are more favorable for some team members than others. And finally, it is best to use third-party apps to discuss plans for the team, or at least guess what the team is planning for in-game and share a common goal among the team.
