Monkeys are characters that move alongside the player's Hero in Bloons Blitz. Unlike Heroes, the player cannot control them directly and they do not take damage on contact with Bloons. Each Monkey has 18 upgrade, but can only have up to five upgrades per run. Monkeys come in three different categories: Primary, Military, and Magic, which affects how they interact with certain stickers.

The player can add a Monkey to their team by choosing their corresponding upgrade when the team levels up. The player can have up to three Monkeys in their team at a time alongside their Hero.

Levels

Each Monkey has a level ranging from 1 to 20. The player can raise a Monkey's level outside of a run by collecting enough Monkey XP (by using that Monkey in runs), then spending a certain amount of Gold. The amount of XP and Gold required increases with each level.

Raising a Monkey's level unlocks permanent bonuses on all runs, such as higher-tier upgrades, base stat boosts, and Level 2 versions of its upgrades that have stronger effects. The player can only choose one bonus per level out of a set of two or three. After unlocking a level, the player can spend Bloonstones or a Respec Token to switch the bonus they chose for a level (with the exceptions of levels 2–4, which the player cannot respec after unlocking all three paths).
