Hot Air Bloon (also called Hot Air Bloon iOS to distinguish it from the original and emphasize its exclusivity on iOS), officially referred as Hot Air Bloon for Mobile or Hot Air Bloon for iPhone and iPod Touch[3], is an iOS game in the Bloons franchise. It is based on the original flash version of Hot Air Bloon, but remade in a new engine with redone graphics and additional content. This version contains the endless mode from the original game, but also includes a brand new story mode.
Gameplay
Hot Air Bloon is an autorunner where the player controls a monkey on a blimp that automatically moves right. The blimp will automatically fall down, so the player must make sure the blimp does not crash by holding the power button that will lift the blimp up until released, at which point the blimp will fall back down. The player must manage the height of the blimp by holding down the power button and releasing when appropriate. When the blimp comes in contact with a bloon, they will earn a point. The more points the player has, the faster the blimp will move. There are obstacles in the way that will immediately kill the monkey when the blimp makes contact with them, and obstacles can either be static or moving obstacles.
Classic
Classic mode is an endless gamemode with the objective of popping as many bloons as possible for the highest score the player can achieve. The endless mode starts with stationary obstacles before later spawning crows that travel in a straight line. There is a leaderboard function that keeps track of the player's top scores, and they can compare their scores with other players through Game Center.
Story mode
Story mode is a brand new gamemode involving 7 stages, comprised of 3 normal levels and 1 boss level each. Each level requires the player reach the end of a level or defeat a boss, which with one exception, is not determined by the amount of bloons popped. The player starts with 3 lives, with each death losing a life and restarting the level. Popping a varying amount of bloons depending on what stage the player is on will add a life. Lose all lives and the player is sent back to the first level of their current stage.
All four levels within a stage occur in the same biome, with each level containing obstacles and sometimes gimmicks unique to said biome. Gimmicks include limited fuel that is used everytime the player holds down the power button, with the power button no longer working altogether once fuel is fully depleted, or an oxygen bar that must be replenished by popping Oxygen bloons, with the player dying if the oxygen bar runs out. Bosses instead will typically make the player no longer move forward with one exception, and must either be killed by the player by shooting darts at them, surviving long enough, solving a game of Simon Says, or reaching them.
Bloons
Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow bloons are featured as default bloons that are functionally identical. Besides the four standard bloons, there are five bloons with unique effects: Insect Repellent Bloon, Oxygen Bloon, Ice Bloon, Bomb Bloon, and Fuel Bloon.
