List of errors in BTD5 and BMC (multiplatform)
This is a list of errors in the multiplatform version of Bloons TD 5, the console version of Bloons TD 5, and the multiplatform version of Bloons Monkey City. Due to their shared framework and assets, these games share a number of errors. The names of bugs and glitches are unofficial.
Bugs and glitches
editSub-Projectile duplication glitch
editMost projectiles that are supposed to collide with only one bloon can perform their effect multiple times when given pierce buffs, with more pierce granting more collisions, in effect "duplicating" the projectile. For example, when buffed by a Monkey Fort, Hydra Rocket Pods's rockets can collide with two Bloons each and thus spawn two explosions instead of one, and in BTD5 only, Glaive Ricochet's thrown projectile can spawn two ricocheting projectiles. This is also commonly called the "Monkey Fort glitch" because the effect is most noticeable with the Monkey Fort, but it works with all pierce buffs. The Bomb Tower's main attack and the Monkey Sub are not affected by this glitch.
Banana Research Facility glitch
editIf a Banana Republic is upgraded to a Banana Research Facility during a round (not during the break between rounds), it produces banana boxes at the same rate as a Banana Republic for the rest of the round.
Support Chinook crash
editIf a Support Chinook is carrying a tower or moving towards a tower to redeploy it, and that tower disappears, the game crashes. This is possible if the tower is sold before being picked up, or if another mechanic causes it to disappear before or while being carried:
- Sentries or Shadow Doubles Bloons TD 5 (multiplatform)
Bloons TD 5 (console) expiring on their own - Getting sacrificed to a Temple Of The Monkey God
- Getting sacrificed to the Wizard Lord Bloons TD 5 (multiplatform)
Bloons TD 5 (console) - Disappearing after 10 rounds on Short-Lived Bloons TD 5 (multiplatform)
Bloons TD 5 (console)
Reactor glitch
editThe description of Bloontonium Reactor states that it "doesn't stack". While the damaging effect doesn't stack, the ability cooldown buff does stack additively. Additionally, if the Reactor is upgraded on its other path while submerged, it applies its buff again for each upgrade, allowing a single Reactor to stack its cooldown buff up to three times. The extra buffs are lost if the Reactor is unsubmerged or, in BTD5, if the game is reloaded.
Monkey Village self-buffing glitch
editIf a Monkey Village is placed in range of another Monkey Village, both Monkey Villages will apply their own buffs to themselves in addition to the other Village. This persists even if the other Village is sold, though a villages actual range will not update until the buffed village is upgraded. In BTD5, these buffs can be reset by saving and reloading the game, or buying a continue (though buying a continue in BMC will not fix the bug)
MIB glitch
editMonkey Intelligence Bureau causes towers that deal extra damage to Ceramic Bloons or extra damage to MOAB-Class Bloons to deal extra damage to both. For example, a MOAB Mauler under an MIB deals 10 damage to both Ceramic Bloons and MOAB-Class Bloons. This does not apply to the Spike Factory in BMC, except on Spike Storm.
The Bombing Range specialist building also enables this bug for MOAB Maulers.
Spike Factory range bug
editSpike Factories cannot deploy spikes anywhere outside of their base range. If a Spike Factory's range is buffed by a Monkey Village, it will not attempt to place spikes anywhere in its extended range.
Bloon Trap cash bug
editBloon Trap ignores the Freeplay and Bloon Beacon scaling on income generation, and will always produce $2 ($3 with Monkey Town) for every layer of Bloon captured (for $500 if it captures 250 Bloon layers, or $750 with Monkey Town) regardless of how much the trapped Bloons are actually worth.
Cleansing Foam MIB bug
editIf a Cleansing Foam Engineer is buffed by an Monkey Intelligence Bureau Village, the Engineer's Foam can damage all types of bloons, not just lead bloons.
MOAB-SHREDR vs. Lead
editA MOAB-SHREDR Spike Factory pile, whether upgraded with White Hot Spikes, under the influence of the MIB, or having both instances applied, will instantly get destroyed by a single Lead Bloon, causing its insides to walk free, or until they get hit by another tower or spike pile.
Temple Sacrifice Oversights
editSome of the Temple of The Monkey God Sacrifices do nothing or are a downgrade compared to previous sacrifice tiers:
- Sacrificing $10,000-$29,999 of Bomb Shooters and/or Mortar Monkeys do not grant +8 damage to MOAB-class for the missile explosions. Sacrificing $30,000+ of Bomb Shooters and/or Mortar Monkeys does not increase the number of missiles from 3 to 6.
- Sacrificing $30,000+ of Monkey Apprentices does not increase the tornados damage from 1 to 2, and reverts the pierce from 150 to 90.
- Sacrificing $10,000-$29,999 of any towers granting the Blade Attack do not adjust the offset of the blades. Sacrificing $30,000+ of any towers granting Blade Attack does not allow blades to pop Lead Bloons.
Visual errors
edit- If a tower is overclocked and the Monkey Engineer with Overclock is sold, the overclocked tower loses the overclock buff, but it still displays the visual effect for being overclocked.
- The Supa-Vac ability can target MOAB-Class Bloons, despite not being able to suck them in. This causes the tower to rotate towards MOAB-Class Bloons without doing anything to them. This was fixed in the multiplatform version of Bloons TD Battles.
Text errors
edit- The description of Super Monkey Fan Club states that the ability lasts for 10 seconds, but it actually lasts for 15 seconds.
- The description of The Big One states that it pops "3 layers of bloon", but it actually deals 5 damage per hit.
- The description of Energy Beacon states that it reduces Activated Ability cooldowns by 20%, but it actually reduces them by 50%.
- The description of MIB Call To Arms states that its ability buffs the range of towers, but this is untrue.
- The description of Missile Launcher states that it improves the damage of the tower, but this is untrue.
BTD5-specific errors
editSave-reload ability cooldown bug
edit| This article is in need of research. You can help out by editing this article or discussing your findings on the talk page. The editor who added this notice elaborates: Determine the exact cause of the GZ exception, if possible |
If a game is saved and reloaded, all current Activated Ability cooldown buffs are applied twice. This only affects abilities that are currently on cooldown; the effect ends once an ability's cooldown is over and does not apply to any abilities that are currently off cooldown. Notably, with the Energy Beacon, this effectively resets all current cooldowns because it applies its 50% cooldown reduction twice.
The Ground Zero ability also refreshes cooldown when the game is saved and reloaded, without any external cooldown buffs required.
Monkey Pirates instakilling bosses
editMonkey Pirates can instakill Dreadbloon and Blastapopoulos with the MOAB Takedown ability, but not Bloonarius or Vortex.
Stationary Ace Co-op desync
editPlacing a Monkey Ace in Co-op and switching flight path targeting before the tower is synchronized with both players will cause the ace to remain stationary on the landing pad until targeting is changed again. This effect is only rendered on the ace's owner's side.
Repositioning terrain Special Agents bug
editIf a Support Chinook repositions a Portable Lake or Pontoon, the terrain it creates does not move with it. It still behaves as terrain created by that Agent, so the Agent cannot be sold if a tower is placed on the disembodied terrain and the terrain disappears if the Agent is removed.
Repositioning buffed towers bug
editA tower buffed by the crucibles on The Crucible or the thrones on Over-Throne retains its buff if repositioned by a Support Chinook.
Big Bloon Sabotage bug
editHaving any level of Big Bloon Sabotage enabled in the Monkey Lab disables the increased health that MOAB-Class Bloons gain in Impoppable mode, in addition to lowering their health.
Engineers Workshop bug
editThe Level 3 Engineers Workshop Specialty Building states "Nail guns and turrets pop lead and frozen bloons", but it also allows Cleansing Foam to damage all Bloons instead of just Lead Bloons. Additionally, Lead and frozen Bloons still play their sound effects when hit by Engineer and Sentry projectiles with this Specialty enabled, despite taking damage from them.
Rank skipping
editDue to an oversight, the XP thresholds for all ranks after 98 are missing a zero at the end. As a result, reaching rank 98 causes the player to skip straight to rank 134, and all ranks above 98 require only one-tenth as much XP to reach compared to the Flash version.
Special/Random Mission freeplay glitch
editAfter completing a Special or Random mission, by exiting the game without going back to the title screen and then reloading the save the game will allow the player to keep playing past the intended rounds available. Several special missions keep their properties, like Fast Upgrades upgrading all towers at the end of the round.
Selling towers in Short-Lived
editIn Bloons TD 5 HD and the ports to Windows and Macintosh that use the same HUD layout (Steam, Microsoft Store, etc), the sell button is not disabled on Short-Lived, which allows the player to sell towers before they expire. The HUD on iOS and Android correctly replaces the sell button with a counter to prevent selling.
Pontoon Pro and Overclock conflict
editOverclocking a tower on a Pontoon Pro or moving an overclocked tower onto a Pontoon Pro removes the range buff, until the game is reloaded, which instead removes the Overclock buff.
Daily Challenge Streak oversight
editInstead of resetting at the end of a week, Daily Challenges do not reset until the player has not played a daily challenge in a day. This results in the ability to do the Perfect Week achievement while skipping some challenges at the cost of time.
Water towers in Daily Challenges
editDaily Challenges are supposed to only enable Monkey Subs and Monkey Buccaneers on tracks with water. However, Snowman and Six Feet are incorrectly considered to have water, allowing them to be enabled on those tracks, while River Logging, Sprint Track, Snowy Backyard, Siege, and Double Double Cross are incorrectly considered to not have water, preventing them from being enabled on those tracks.
Wizard Lord Mini-Tornado oversight
editThe Wizard Lord tower is able to be buffed by the Mage Spire to produce Mini-Tornadoes, but this is applied incorrectly and does nothing.
Smart Swarm
editThe Beekeeper Pro's Swarm ability, when used near an MIB, allows its bees to pop Lead Bloons, despite the main attack not being able to.
Shift Hotkey oversight
editOn PC releases, the player can hold Shift to place multiple of the same monkey type in quick succession, which can bypass the 1 tower limit of certain Random Missions and the Mix 'N' Match.
Same Event Map oversight
editIf another event shares the same map with the Mix 'n' Match event, the other event will redirect the player to the Mix 'N' Match event on the map selection screen instead of the original map intended for that event.
Mix 'N' Madness on Over-throne oversight
editPlaying on Over-Throne during the Mix 'n' Match rotation will override the thrones' main gimmick with water, which makes placing Buccaneers and Subs possible, but the thrones won't grant their buffs or allow land towers to be placed.
Text errors
edit- The description of the Popping Power Monkey Lab category states that it increases the "popping power" of towers by a percentage, but it actually grants a percentage chance for projectiles to have doubled pierce.
- The description of the level 2 Mage Spire states that it increases the range of Monkey Apprentices by 10%, but it actually increases their attack speed by 10%.
- The description of the level 2 Heli Hangar states that it increases the range of Heli Pilots by 10%, but it actually increases their attack speed by 10%.
- The description of the Bee Keeper states "stingers can't pop lead or ice", but its bees can pop frozen Bloons.
- The achievement for earning three medals on The Rink is called "The Rink Olypmian" instead of "The Rink Olympian."
- Skull Peak is called "Mountain Skull Peak" in its Olympian achievement. This was its name in the original submission for a track design contest on Facebook.
- Bloon of Clubs is called "Bloons of Clubs" in its Olympian achievement.
Visual errors
edit- The trees on the thumbnail for Wattle Trees are larger than they are in-game.
- The thumbnail for Castle is missing the flags.
- Roswell's Olympian achievement icon on some external services depicts the unused Artful Dodgers track.
BMC-specific errors
editDDT immunities
editUnlike in the Flash version, DDTs do not have Black or Lead properties, though the "Dark Dirigible Titan" Quest still states that they "combine the properties of all other bloons".
Bloon Beacon Bug
editThe Bloon Beacon Bug affects round generation in My Tracks tile replays (excluding Special Missions) and Contested Territory, and causes the affected modes to increase in round difficulty and decrease in number of rounds.
This bug occurs when entering the respective areas after opening up the game, so long as a non-bugged attack hasn't been entered. a non-bugged attack includes the following:
- Tiles without a Bloon Beacon
- Boss Fight
- MvM defenses
- Special Mission track replay
The Beacon Bug while replaying tracks will have the same number of rounds as if the difficulty selected were on a beacon tile, though the cash per pop will not be affected. This results in more difficult rounds of the Bloon Beacon leaking into these gamemodes. Completing a bugged track replay will also grant the Bloonstone reward from a bugged Monkeys From Space event.
The Beacon Bug will also occur in CT when the game is opened and before doing a non-bugged attack if there is no Contested Territory Data file. There will be no Contested Territory Data file if CT has not been played since the track has changed or if the file is deleted (which will happen if the game's app data is reset, the game is uninstalled, or the file is deleted by the player. The rounds displayed in CT will be normal, but Bloons will be sent as if it were a beacon tile, resulting in high RBE at earlier rounds. Cash per pop will also be affected as if it were a beacon tile.
To fix this bug in track replays, simply enter any non-bugged attack. To fix this bug for Contested Territory, the AppData folder for the game must be reset / removed, or the file containing the contested territory data is deleted.
To prevent this bug from happening, simply enter any attack before attempting to play Contested Territory so long as it is not currently bugged. This only needs to be done once until the CT map changes or the CT data file is deleted.
Mortar upgrade oversight
editUpgrades to the Mortar's explosion radius and pierce only apply to its de-regrow Monkey Knowledge effect, not the explosion that deals damage. This means Bigger Blast doing nothing on its own, only increasing the 2/3 Mortar's de-regrow radius, and The Big One only increases its damage, not its blast radius or pierce.
Sentry oversight
editUnlike in BTD5, Monkey Engineers can place Sentries anywhere, even on water and unplaceable terrain. They also are unable to recieve the Sprockets speed buff.
MVM Final Round Errors
editIn Monkey v Monkey, there are numerous errors tied to the end of the final round of an MVM defense. After the last Bloon spawns, several things behave incorrectly:
- If the player has the Autostart toggle set to off, the game has severe lag spikes until the game is over.
- The First Strike Capability's Activated ability can no longer be used.
- The Monkey Bank and Banana Investments Advisory's Level 5 Monkey Knowledge effect is triggered on every frame, resulting in massive amounts of money generated.
MVM Defense Rewards Error
editIn Monkey V Monkey, defending an attack results in gaining XP as if the player had captured the tile, despite not being listed in the rewards screen.
Text errors
edit- The Extra Sticky Substance's description states that it increases the Glue Gunner's slowdown by 5% and effect duration by 20%, but it actually increases slowdown by 15% and duration by 5%.
- The rank 15 Spike Factory Monkey Knowledge states that it reduces the cooldown of Spike Storm by 8 seconds, but it actually reduces it by 12 seconds.
- The My Monkeys profile for the Dart Monkey refers to Enhanced Eyesight as "Very Long Range", which is one of its internal names in the Flash version.
- The My Monkeys profile for the Super Monkey refers to Sun God as "Sun Avatar", which is one of its internal names in the Flash version.
- The My Monkeys profile for the Dartling Gun refers to Laser Cannon as "Plasma Cannon". This error does not exist in the Flash version.
- The Monkey Boost reward is referred to as "Tower Boost" in the Mini Land Grab event description and the boss rewards sheet.
- The Skull Gravestone Decoration's description has a typo, spelling "their" as "thier".
- Monkey Sub's in-game description, which can be seen when hovering over its icon in the towers menu on desktop versions, has a typo, spelling "including" as "incuding".
Visual errors
edit- The Increased Accuracy upgrade does not change the targeting reticle to a smaller version.
- The in-game thumbnails for the Weight and Turkey tracks are missing their trees. This also applies to the thumbnail for Forgotten Garden, though this is impossible to see in-game because that Special Mission is unused.
- The Caged Engineers on the in-game thumbnail for Engineer Rescue use the Monkey Engineer sprite from the Flash version instead of the mobile version.
- In city view, if any non-Dart Monkey goes under a rain cloud, it will become invisible instead of appearing with an umbrella.
- In city view, when researching the first upgrade for Super Monkey, the researcher is displayed above the door instead of in front of it.
