Bloons TD 5 (also parsed Bloons Tower Defense 5 and Bloons TD5) is an Adobe Flash game in the Bloons TD series developed by Ninja Kiwi and published in 2011. It is the original version of Bloons TD 5 and shares its framework with Bloons TD 5 Deluxe, the Flash version of Bloons TD Battles, and the Flash version of Bloons Monkey City.

On 1 April 2022[3], Ninja Kiwi announced the shutdown of the Ninja Kiwi Archive servers for Bloons TD 5 Flash and other Flash titles set to take effect on 30 April 2022. These servers enabled the following to function:
As a result of the shutdown of these servers, Awesome Points related to these features are now unobtainable but still appear as obtained for accounts that previously achieved them.

Teaser images
[edit | edit source]From 18 November 2011 to 29 November 2011, visiting the pages for Bloons TD 4 or Bloons TD 4 Expansion on Ninja Kiwi's website would display an image teasing a feature of the game. The image would change on each day. These teasers were presented as "leaks" from a "shady gentleman claiming to be from something called the Monkey Intelligence Bureau".[4] These images were later compiled on the teaser website.

Today I observed a new upgrade to the tack towers, the "Tack Sprayer". What they appear to have done is alter the firing mechanism to allow for 16 tacks per volley instead of 8. This should prove quite useful.
| 2 | Date: 19th of November 2011
Today I witnessed what I believe is called the "Bionic Boomer" which is the result of research into both arm speed (through bionic arm upgrades) and special composite boomerangs to provides[sic] astonishing power and flight speed.
| 3 | Date: 20th of November 2011
Following the smell of burning rubber, today I ventured upon an awesome sight. Monkey apprentices apparently have perfected a new spell upgrade - "Dragon's Breath".
| 4 | Date: 21st of November 2011
Further advances into corrosive glues have lead[sic] to the new upgrade I saw today. The "Bloon Dissolver" eats through the Bloons much faster than previously. Not a nice way to go if you're made of rubber...
| 5 | Date: 22nd of November 2011
Though late to naval warfare, the monkeys proved again why they shouldn't be underestimated. I was lucky enough to witness a field test of a "Destroyer", a very high firerate ship. A joy to behold.
| 6 | Date: 23rd of November 2011
I must admit I had been wondering how the monkeys had been able to fund the technological advances they've been making. The answer is this, the "Monkey Bank". Pays interest each round.
| 7 | Date: 24th of November 2011
Today I was able to get a sneak peek of something really cool! The monkeys have developed an upgrade to the Monkey Ace called "Neva-Miss Targeting". Darts that intelligently seek out targets. Wow!
| 8 | Date: 25th of November 2011
Seems like overkill isn't a word in the monkey vocabulary. Today I saw a Monkey[sic] don this incredible suit, the "Robo-Monkey". Two independently targetting plasma cannons. Nuf said.
| 9 | Date: 26th of November 2011
Today I was thrilled to see an advancement in my favourite tower, the Bomb Tower. Not much to look at but you should see it firing! The "Cluster Bomb"[sic] upgrade has Bombs within Bombs! Bombception!
| 10 | Date: 27th of November 2011
Today I was surprised to see a further upgrade to what is already cutting edge tech. The Dartling tower has a new boost, "Hydra Rockets" which replaces darts with tiny rockets. A study in awesomology.
| 11 | Date: 28th of November 2011
Today was very special. The monkeys seem to have some mercenaries to aid their cause and I was lucky enough to spot the "Beekeeper" a BEAR no less! Seems he has been trained to fight the good fight.
| 12 | Date: 29th of November 2011
Those clever little monkeys. Now, understanding supply lines, they've been able to add support to their regular towers through "Monkey Villages". These units provide an array of benefits to towers within a radius. |
Who Wants To Be A Bloonionaire?
[edit | edit source]
Who Wants To Be A Bloonionaire? was a small trivia Flash game released to promote Bloons TD 5. The game presented a series of trivia questions about the Bloons TD series, and if all 10 questions were answered correctly in a row, the game presented the player with a trailer for BTD5. It was released a few days before the trailer was officially uploaded to YouTube.

Releases
[edit | edit source]Kongregate
[edit | edit source]The Kongregate release uses Kongregate's account system for saves and high scores. Following the discontinuation of Adobe Flash at the end of 2020, the site began using Ruffle to emulate Flash games on browsers that disabled Flash, though BTD5 currently doesn't work on Ruffle.
Newgrounds
[edit | edit source]The Newgrounds release used Ninja Kiwi's account system, though it no longer supports logging in. It was last updated for v130131.01, the update that introduced Z Factor and The Eye. Following the discontinuation of Adobe Flash at the end of 2020, it can only be played on Ruffle or the Newgrounds Player.
