Buddy Bloon is an Advanced Bloon card in Bloons Card Storm. It starts with 150 Shield and reduces the ATK of the opponent's Monkey with the highest ATK to zero when it is played. The ATK reduction persists until the Buddy Bloon or the affected Monkey is removed. If multiple Monkeys are tied for the highest ATK, it chooses the first placed Monkey. It affects secondary damage effects that are dependent on the target's ATK stat (e.g. Triple Shot's Splash Damage), but not card effects that deal a fixed amount of damage (e.g. Blade Maelstrom's On Turn End, Bouncing Bullet's bounces) or On Fire or Acid Pools caused by Monkeys.

The card artwork depicts two monkeys walking in a sidewalk of a city, with a Buddy Bloon in the center. Both monkeys appear happy.

  • Buddy Bloon is best used for countering high damage Monkeys in the early game. Targeting something like a Night Vision Sniper, Super Monkey, Frag Bomb Shooter or Robo Monkey earlier on can harm opponent defenses by making strong, more expensive cards functionally useless for a while.
  • Freeing the neutralized Monkey via popping the Buddy Bloon is difficult without the support of Powers or other Monkeys. Unless it can surely be popped within 3 turns, focusing damage on it is useless. Buddy has 250 effective health, which is quite a lot for 4.
  • Towers affected by Buddy Bloon can be affected by Bed Time. This combo is more expensive than Shrink and costs two cards to do, so it generally is not worth considering.
  • If the opponent tries to rely on a Defender to damage Bloons after their turn, Buddy Bloon can be used to negate it (provided it's the highest ATK Monkey), and also waste its ammo.
  • A simple but cheap way to pop Buddy Bloon is Overload, which is suitable for aggro mirrors.
  • Buddy Bloon does not stop "On Attack" effects, so using it on Burny Stuff, Alchemist, or Bloon Master Alchemist is not as effective as on other Monkeys. It also has no effect on effects independent from the ATK stat, making it less effective on Blade Maelstrom and Bouncing Bullet.

Update history

[edit | edit source]
  • Neutral Delay increased ― 2 → 3
    • Note: This allows Buddy Bloon to keep its On Play effect for longer
  • Buff Health increased ― 50 → 75
  • Change Description now uses the abbreviation "ATK" instead of "Attack Power"
“
Buddy Bloon has had its health increased from 75 to 100 to make it a little more tanky to have the effect last for longer.
— u/No-Appearance1780's commentary, 12:07–12:12 (with most disfluencies removed)
”
  • Buff Health increased ― 75 → 100

Development

[edit | edit source]

This card existed in the data of Bloons Card Storm since the Firstlook test, and was originally named "Friendly Bloon", though it went unused until the full release. The full release changed its properties, and likely changed its name to avoid confusion (as "friendly Bloon" is also a term used in card text for any Bloon with the same owner).

Art Name Description Rarity Cost Charges Health Delay
Beta builds Friendly Bloon When played: Random Enemy Monkey's Damage becomes 0 Uncommon 4 2 50 2
Version 1.0 Buddy Bloon On Play: Reduce highest enemy Monkey's Attack Power to 0 while this is in play. Uncommon 4 1 50 2

Version 6.4 further increased Buddy Bloon's Health to keep it strong enough while keeping the affected Monkey at 0 ATK, so more damage is required to handle Buddy Bloon.[1] The result has made it immune to Overload when buffed by Zee Jay or Dark Castle; although not listed in the tester commentary by OdysseyTOS, this buff might encourage aggro usage.
