Map difficulty (called Track Type in Bloons TD 5) is a system used to categorize maps in the Bloons TD series. It first appears in Bloons TD 4, where it has no gameplay significance, but later games in the series have game mechanics that depend on map difficulty. Maps of higher difficulty levels generally feature shorter paths and/or multiple paths, line of sight and placement blockers, and removable objects. The difficulty of a map does not necessarily correlate with the actual difficulty of the map; an infamous example is Geared in Bloons TD 6, which is classified as Advanced but is harder than several Expert maps.

Bloons TD 6

[edit | edit source]

In Bloons TD 6, map difficulty has multiple effects:

  • It multiplies the amount of experience earned at the end of each round. This includes level XP, tower XP, and Hero XP.
  • It multiplies the amount of Monkey Money earned by completing games.
  • It affects the tier of Insta Monkey the player earns by completing round 100. Insta Monkeys earned for subsequent rounds (200, 300, etc) are always tier 3 or tier 4.

Initially, after completing the First Time Tutorial!, only Beginner maps are available to the player. Maps of higher difficulties unlock by winning games and earning medals. Winning multiple games on the same map does not count.

All Map Editor maps are considered Intermediate for the purposes of Hero XP.

Difficulty Unlock requirements XP multiplier Monkey Money multiplier Round 100 Insta-Monkey tier
