Wish orbs are loot boxes in Bloons Adventure Time TD that are the primary means of unlocking equipment. Opening a wish orb drops three random items, consisting of weapons, trinkets, or allies, that the player can choose one of (or two by spending gems). The player can also shard the items (or the wish orb itself) to convert them into shards, which are used to craft more wish orbs. Wish orbs come in six tiers of rarity that determine what rarity of items they can drop.

Legendary wish orbs are the highest tier of wish orb. They are only obtainable as grand prizes from certain events and can contain Legendary-tier items and character resources. They are the only way to obtain Monkey Farmers without in-app purchases.

Item drops

If the player has accumulated any wish orbs, they are forced to open (or shard) all of them as soon as they return to the world map or the kingdom menu.

Opening a wish orb drops three random items. One item is guaranteed to be of the same rarity as the wish orb, while the other two have a chance to be of a higher or lower rarity if applicable. A wish orb cannot drop more than one copy of the same item. The player has the option to reroll all items by watching an ad (on mobile with an Internet connection) or by spending  3 Gems (on PC).

Upon choosing one item, the player has the option to purchase a second item from the same orb by spending gems. The cost depends on the rarity.

Sharding

The player can choose to shard an item drop instead of collecting it, which converts it to an amount of shards based on its rarity. The player can only shard their first item choice from a wish orb, and the game does not allow the player to choose a second item if they do.

At rank 10, the player unlocks the option to shard the wish orb itself instead of opening it, which returns the same number of shards as an item of the same rarity.

Legendary wish orbs

In addition to Epic-tier equipment, Legendary wish orbs can drop the following:

• 40 character resources of a random type
• 20 Cosmic Essence
• Any Legendary-tier equipment except Holiday BMO and Clarence

Character resources and Cosmic Essence are treated as Legendary-tier items. Items from Legendary wish orbs cannot be sharded, and the player cannot choose a second item from a Legendary wish orb.

Sources

• Wish orbs commonly drop from loot chests and Adventure Chests. Chests from higher difficulty levels drop higher-rarity wish orbs. Loot bags from playing on higher difficulty levels can sometimes drop low-rarity wish orbs.
• Wish orbs appear on the Daily Rewards calendar. The player always earns an Epic wish orb on every 30th day.
• Wish orbs have a chance to drop during a game from the Thought Cannon Wand's effect, the Treasure Chest Keys' treasure chests, the Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant's Ultimate Wish Activated Ability, and Prismo's Homemade Artisanal Pickles. They stop dropping wish orbs for the rest of the current game if the player has earned a total of at least  3,000 Coins,  100 Gems, or 30 wish orbs during that game.
• Wish orbs are purchasable for real money from the store.
• Wish orbs are prizes from Collection Events and Joshua and Margaret Investigations events. Legendary wish orbs are obtainable exclusively as grand prizes from these events.
• The player can trade Martian Crystals for wish orbs with the Martian Trader.

Strategy

• The number one priority of a new account is to obtain a Thought Cannon Wand. The player should always reroll Epic wish orbs to increase the odds of it appearing.
• If the player has a LiNK account, upon reaching the wish orb opening interface, one can load a second instance of the game from a cloud save (such as by playing on a second device or by opening the game on a second window on a PC), which allows one to reroll a wish orb on one instance and not the other. This allows one to choose an item from before the reroll in case the rerolled options are worse, which is especially useful for Legendary wish orbs. After choosing an item, one should choose to keep playing that instance in a local save on that instance and back it up to the cloud to keep it.
