If you get More Cash, the +$200 starting cash allows you to begin with many more options; you can place a Farm earlier, making income sooner to buy even more Farms. Farm Subsidy allows you to buy a Farm sooner, so you can begin making money sooner. More Valuable Bananas makes 0-2-3 Marketplace more cost-efficient than 2-0-3 if buying them immediately, and also greatly improves late-game farming with 5-2-0 Banana Central + 4-2-0 Banana Research Facility spam. Preparing to defend the Tier 1 boss features spending as little into defense as possible to defeat the Bloons so all the money can be put into income generation (farming). Single digit rounds and the early 10's can be defended for very cheap using some options.
Guide in progress
Preparing to defend the Tier 1 boss features spending as little into defense as possible to defeat the Bloons so all the money can be put into income generation (farming). To start, place a 0-0-0 Dart Monkey, then the Hero (start with them if possible), then additional defense 1 (referenced in the table): Monkey Sub (preferred with Military Conscription), Boomerang Monkey (preferred with Recurring Rangs), Monkey Engineer, or Druid. In addition to them, 1-2 more Dart Monkeys is also an option. Then, obtain two 2-0-0 Farms.

* Dart Monkey + Monkey Sub: On a single lane map with no intersections (ex. Off The Coast) they can defend reliably without micro/targeting until Round 14 with minimal leaks which can be covered by Pre-game Prep. Is recommended to have Bonus Monkey! so the Dart Monkey is free, but not needed. This is the cheapest defense when paired with Military Conscription.
After the player has two 2-0-0 Farms (or earlier if the defense is already being pressured), the player can save to place the Hero if it has not been placed. Otherwise, additional defense 2 (referenced in the table) can be obtained by upgrading one of following towers (if present): Engineer to 1-0-0, Boomerang to 1-0-2, or Druid to 1-0-0.
* Dart Monkey + Boomerang Monkey: Can also defend until Round 14, but a few more leaks and more expensive in high Monkey Knowledge scemarops compared to the Sub.
* 3 Dart Monkeys: The most expensive of these three options but will also defend until Round 14.
* In case some of the strategies listed above are not available, any combination of two towers between Dart, Sub, Boomerang, Ninja, Druid, or Engineer are also reliable, with the later 3 can be upgraded later as the rounds progress, but they have the disadvantage of being more expensive, delaying farms.
* Quincy, Sauda and Obyn can also be used for this purpose, with the advantage that they can also deal with the 30's camo by their own. If More Cash is available and/or by letting Round 1 leak/be popped by spikes, Gwen and even Corvus become options.

After placing the initial towers, the player should focus on placing Geraldo / Benjamin (if available) and a Banana Farm as soon as possible (You can start with Dart only and Geraldo can be delayed so the Quincy Figure can be bought immediately or at most 2 rounds after placing him). After getting the Farm, it should be upgraded to 2-0-0 before placing a second farm and also upgrade it to 2-0-0. Farms should be placed near water, if possible.
The Camo Bloon in round 24 is normally ignored, but Lead defense is needed for 28 and 30. The 0-0-0 Bomb Shooter, 0-0-0 Alchemist, and 1-0-0 Druid are common options. Before Bloon Trap is obtained, the Engineer can be upgraded up to 3-0-2 and the Boomerang up to 2-0-2 if needed. Listed below is a quick summary of the early-game.

After the player has two 2-0-0 farms (or earlier if the defense is already being pressured), the player can save to place their Hero if if isn't on the field already. Otherwise common follow up towers on the on the late 10's and early 20's for defense include Engineer, Ace, Buccaneer or Druid. At this point is better to put an additional monkey that will  provide more utility later rather than upgrade existing Darts, Boomerangs or Subs as they are very likely to be sold.

Listed below is the recommended farming progression, with procedures for Monkeyopolis being referenced.
The camo bloon in round 24 is normally ignored but Lead defense is needed for 28 and 30. Common defenses include Alchemist and 1-0-0 Sniper / Druid as they can be further upgraded to Lead to Gold, Night Vision Goggles / Elite Defender or Druid of the Jungle, respectively.
Guide in progress
The Hero saveup is done first, and then, a 0-0-0 Engineer is recommended. Upgrading it slowly and only when needed to Sprockets will generally suffice until Round 32, with a base Bomb Shooter for Rounds 28 and 30. Then, a 0-2-3 Crossbow is obtained for Camos, and Bloon Trap(s) will do the bulk of the defense starting on Round 34. If using an early-game Hero, even less defense is needed.

Here is the icon of the inactive Boss Bloon Event, which If a Boss Event is active, which changes to the featured boss when the event is active.

Boss Bloon Events spawn extremely challenging Boss Bloons that will easily overwhelm incoherent strategies, especially the Elite version. This article will be focused on the gameplay before and between Boss spawns, as the strategy while the Boss is present varies widely depending on the Boss. Farming is key to defeating Bosses, especially Elite ones, hence this article will mostly be about farming. For strategies to defeat the Bosses themselves, consult the strategy page for each Boss Bloon: Bloonarius, Lych, Vortex, Dreadbloon, Phayze and Blastapopoulos.

Heroes are crucial to victory, providing valuable support or income and greatly simplifying the Boss. Recommended Heroes are listed below.

Name Portrait Reasoning & how to use
Geraldo When placing Geraldo early, Rare Quincy Action Figure can be afforded and sold in the 30s to obtain Monkeyopolis, the most efficient farm. In addition, Rejuv Potion allows for multiple ability usages against Bosses, Paragon Power Totem makes the obtaining of expensive, high-degree Paragons such as Goliath Doomship much cheaper, and most of his other items see use as well.
Benjamin Ben's money generation greatly simplifies the entire game by creating a snowballing effect that allows for quicker farming. In addition, Biohack is useful in the early-game, and his Level 5 buff to Monkey Banks is very useful.
Early game Heroes Sauda Quincy Corvus The listed heroes are not as powerful as Geraldo and Benjamin, but become useful when both of them are banned. All of them perform solid defense against Bloons before the Tier 1 Boss spawns, allowing more farms to be built.
Support Heroes Adora Admiral Brickell Ezili As with early game Heroes, these heroes see use when Geraldo and Benjamin are banned. They have support capabilities for towers that perform well against Bosses, such as Adora's for Sun Avatars, Brickell's for Destroyers, and Ezili's Sacrificial Totem, which is weaker than Adora's and Brickell's support but applies to all towers nearby.

High amounts of Monkey Knowledge upgrades are recommended before attempting Boss events, especially for Elite bosses. Recommended Monkey Knowledge points are listed below, with all of them aiding greatly in defeating the boss. They are not required, but lacking many of them makes defeating the boss far more difficult, especially the Elite boss.

Purposes Monkey Knowledge Reasoning
Early-game More Cash More Cash, Bonus Monkey! Bonus Monkey!, Hero Favors Hero Favors, Empowered Heroes Empowered Heroes Most Boss Events start on early rounds, and certain MK make early-game much easier. More Cash More Cash's +$200 starting cash allows many more early-game options; income generators can be player earlier, making a snowball effect that exponentially increases farming. Alternatively, more Heroes can be purchased immediately with the increased starting cash. Combined with Hero Favors Hero Favors and Empowered Heroes Empowered Heroes, starter heroes become more efficient to carry the early-game and more cash can be used for farming.

If Dart Monkeys are enabled, the Free Dart from Bonus Monkey! Bonus Monkey! is free defense, so even less defense is needed and income generators can be bought even earlier without costing many lives

Income Farm Subsidy Farm Subsidy, More Valuable Bananas More Valuable Bananas, Bigger Banks Bigger Banks, Inland Revenue Streams Inland Revenue Streams, Bank Deposits Bank Deposits These Monkey Knowledge points greatly increase the income generated by making Farms more efficient.

Farm Subsidy Farm Subsidy allows the 1st farm to be purchased earlier by making it cheaper. More Valuable Bananas More Valuable Bananas makes 0-2-3 Marketplace more cost-efficient than 2-0-3 if buying them immediately, while greatly improveing late-game farming with 5-2-0 Banana Central + 4-2-0 Banana Research Facility spam. Inland Revenue Streams Inland Revenue Streams is beneficial when transitioning to Monkeyopolis + Bloon Trap, as well as Least Tiers if wanting to make income with as few tiers as possible.

Bank Deposits opens up a new method of farming: IMF Farming, which stands out for pre-T1 income generation. Deposit money into the IMF Loan until about $8,490 for the most efficient use of the short-term interest.

Selling Flat Pack Buildings Flat Pack Buildings, Better Sell Deals Better Sell Deals Selling is often required to get defense for the Boss or for better farms. By gaining more money from selling, it is easier to transition into expensive income generators, buy defense, and supply cash sacrifices for Paragon(s).
DPS Veteran Monkey Training Veteran Monkey Training, There Can Be Only One There Can Be Only One, Deadly Tranquility Deadly Tranquility, Paragon of Power Paragon of Power Paragons are far more efficient than most T5 towers against Boss Bloons. The extra attack speed for Paragons matters greatly, especially against Elite Bosses. The other Monkey Knowledge points improve the DPS of non-Paragons, such as There Can Be Only One There Can Be Only One if Paragons are banned.

Rounds 1-39 (pre-Tier 1)

Stack of Old Nails icon This article or section needs cleanup to improve the way it presents information and/or comply with the style guide. You can help out by editing this article.
The editor who added this notice elaborates: Guide in progress

Preparing to defend the Tier 1 boss features spending as little into defense as possible to defeat the Bloons so all the money can be put into income generation (farming). To start, place a 0-0-0 Dart Monkey, then the Hero (start with them if possible), then additional defense 1 (referenced in the table): Monkey Sub (preferred with Military Conscription Military Conscription), Boomerang Monkey (preferred with ), Monkey Engineer, or Druid. In addition to them, 1-2 more Dart Monkeys is also an option. Then, obtain two 2-0-0 Farms.

General recommendations for all Bosses

 • Letting a few bloons leak during the early game is fine to place a farm or get some of their upgrades a little earlier. If the player has Mana Shield Mana Shield and/or Healthy Bananas Healthy Bananas and planning to build Market Places / Central Markets, being more greedy can payoff. However, if the Boss is Lych, the players should be more conservative with the lives to avoid losing to Lych-Soul.
 • During a Boss battle, certain occasions may benefit from stalling or anti-stalling rounds. Stalling or anti-stalling rounds could manipulate timing for when the next rounds send out, which could affect farming, the amount of time to kill a Boss, or the natural bloon spawns.
