The Sniper Monkey is an accurate tower that pops one bloon at a time, and a great support tower, provided other towers handle its weaknesses in early-game and grouped bloons. Its Shrapnel Shot and Bouncing Bullet upgrades can deal with large groups of bloons on its own, but still struggles in the early game without assistance.

Strengths and Weaknesses

[edit | edit source]

Strengths

[edit | edit source]
  • Alt income is very space-efficient
  • Long-ranged blimp debuffs
  • Good single target damage

Weaknesses

[edit | edit source]
  • Very weak early-game on its own
  • Very limited group-popping
  • No viable niche against Tight Rushes
  • Limited direct BAD damage
  • Considered a "noob trap", where many inexperienced players use the tower badly and get punished for it.

Synergies

[edit | edit source]

The Sniper Monkey as a supporting tower can work with many towers, providing a source of alt income, camo control, and late game debuffs.

Heroes

[edit | edit source]
  • Smudge Catt Ezili - Sniper's bonus camo damage can hold off most camo rushes to allow time for Smudge to level up and gain the scratching post ability, which can safely trigger Elite Defender's passive ability.
  • Bonnie - Bonnie's early game money making can transition well into Supply Drops, offering more money making potential.

Towers

[edit | edit source]
  • Boomerang Monkey - Boomerang can alleviate the early game with it's ricochet, while sniper can provide supporting fire to round 10-11 rushes and controlling camo bloons for it.
  • Alchemist - Sniper's Shrapnel Shot responds very well to it's Berserker Brew buffs, alleviating lead popping concerns and applying extra damage.

Upgrades

[edit | edit source]

Path 1

[edit | edit source]
  • Full Metal Jacket is a useful crosspath for chipping multi-layered Bloons in the early-game, including Leads. However, it's still quite slow and expensive on lower-tier Snipers.
  • Large Calibre is more often used as a crosspath, as Full Metal Jacket already does enough to break down early-game multi-layered bloons.
  • Deadly Precision is expensive and unreliable purely for Ceramic popping, yet more expensive than 2-0-3 Sniper for single-target. It is usually only bought as a transition to Maim MOAB.
    • 3-0-2 is usually better as its own upgrade, for maximized single-target damage, compared to 3-2-0 which still has poor pierce versus damage.
  • Maim MOAB assists in stunning small amounts of blimps at a time. Setting to Strong is almost always the best.
    • 4-2-0 is usually the go-to for Maim MOAB, allowing it to stun multiple blimps at a time.
    • 4-0-2 is preferred on single targets, specifically R20-21 Spaced BFBs, and R22-23 Spaced ZOMGs.
  • Cripple MOAB is a valuable support that synergizes very well with towers that attack very quickly and/or have plenty of projectiles. Its direct damage is low, so it's more of a support.
    • 5-2-0 is usually preferred to hit more BADs at once.
    • 5-0-2 is only better versus exactly one BAD.

Path 2

[edit | edit source]
  • Night Vision Goggles alone is beneficial against early Level 5+ Agent Jericho Camos on Rounds 8-11. Set it to Camo Priority to specifically target Camos.
  • Shrapnel Shot is the Sniper's main group-popping power. Target against the grain to allow the shrapnel to maximize its pierce. Targeting on First often allows shrapnel to hit enough bloons.
  • Bouncing Bullet is an expensive option that precisely damages multiple bloons at once but can quickly get overrun by layered rushes.
  • Supply Drop is a space-efficient alt income. Use 0-4-2 and support with other towers, as Supply Drop lacks damage for its cost even with top path and is only bought for income.
  • Elite Sniper can carry versus ordinary bloon rushes while producing lots of cash. Buy it just before the Supply Drop ability cools off, then activate for a huge cash boost. Quickly use the cash to buy extra defense or income sources. Also boosts Sniper-focused defenses, particularly Cripple MOAB.
    • 0-5-2 is still better for increased cash generation, even if 2-5-0 has much stronger shrapnel on each bounce.

Path 3

[edit | edit source]
  • Fast Firing without crosspaths is less efficient than multiple base Snipers, so should only be used as a crosspath for at least Full Metal Jacket or Shrapnel Shot.
  • Even Faster Firing gives maximum attack speed as a crosspath for the Sniper.
  • Semi-Automatic is an expensive supplementary damage.
    • 0-2-3 is better for general damage with the frequent shrapnel.
    • 2-0-3 can be used for single-target, though it's still inefficient for its cost, and too slow for chipping large mid-game rushes of high-HP bloons.
  • Full Auto Rifle is a reasonably helpful mid-game carry on the 10's rounds, handling early MOABs and most R11 rushes if bought early, but can struggle a lot to a proper R13 rush without support such as Gwendolin.
    • 0-2-4 is preferred for most cases, which fires fast shrapnel, and it already does decent bonus MOAB-class damage.
    • 2-0-4 is only better for pure single-target damage to MOAB-Class Bloons, and can still unreliable against midgame bloon rushes.
  • Elite Defender synergizes very well with Smudge Catt, which for only 5 lives boosts attack speed by 4x on top of at least 2x attack speed.
    • 0-2-5 crosspath is usually preferred to handle groups of bloons, compared to 2-0-5 which is only helpful specifically against single-target.

Support from the Sniper

[edit | edit source]

In general, the Sniper is brought in loadouts as more of a support tower than an actual DPS tower (e.g. Ninja Monkey, Wizard Monkey); in fact the only incentive for Sniper as of current is its alt income generation plus blimp debuffs.

Cripple MOAB is expensive, so it's mostly used to handle BADs in the late-game. It is slow but accurate at debuffing one or few BADs at a time. Towers that attack quickly and/or have lots of projectiles take advantage of the flat +5 damage debuff.
