Skates is a Beginner map in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 22.0. It takes place on a frozen river or lake that's being used as an ice skating rink.

Layout

Skates has 2 ice cracks for water towers, including a large one in the center and a small one covered by 3 houses on the right. The houses block line-of-sight, and can be removed to reveal water space for $500. Bloons enter from the top-left, make 3 loops, and exit at the bottom-right. The snow-covered trees at the top-right and bottom-left block line-of-sight as well, though the blockage from them does not reach the track no matter the placement.

Strategy

Skates is a long map, but has a fairly spread-out track. Therefore, global-range towers stand out as relatively powerful on this map. Limited-range towers can still work, being best placed to the left of the large, middle loop. With these tips in mind and general strategies, Skates can be defeated fairly simply.

The spaced-out layout of Skates allows some towers to pull ahead.

Name Portrait Reasoning
Carrier Flagship Flagship can take advantage of the whole map length. It is solid throughout the course of the game, retaining its power well even in the 90s. Its ~17% buff to water towers can be a significant utility if water-based strategies are used to take advantage of the central ice crack, such as Destroyers with Permanent Brew.
Bloon Exclusion Zone When placed below the end of the track, the spread of BEZ's buckshot projectiles allows them to efficiently use up their pierce and take advantage of the entire track length. With MIB, it wipes the floor with the entire late-game with the 2-0-5 cross-path.

Easter eggs

  • Interacting with the penguins at the top of the screen causes them to dive into the lake below, then return after a few minutes.
