BTD5 Deluxe initially released as a paid downloadable game on Ninja Kiwi's website. On 22 September 2012, Ninja Kiwi created a Steam Greenlight page for the game,[2] which was eventually greenlit. However, on 4 November 2014, the Steam Greenlight page was renamed from Bloons TD 5 Deluxe to Bloons TD 5 and its list of features was changed to match the multiplatform version,[3] which is the version of the game that released on 19 November 2014.[4] On 21 November 2014, Ninja Kiwi announced that BTD5 Deluxe was officially discontinued and would not be available for purchase anymore, and players who did purchase it would receive a free key for the Steam port of BTD5.[5] The Flash version continued to receive updates for several years after its discontinuation, meaning this version lacks several features and changes that were introduced to the Flash version post-mortem.
This version uses save files to track progress instead of Ninja Kiwi accounts. There are six save file slots and the icon on each slot changes depending on the player's rank.
The player now earns 500 Monkey Money every 10 ranks.
Premium Upgrades are renamed to Deluxe Upgrades and are purchased permanently with Monkey Money instead of NK Coins. They can no longer be purchased temporarily before the game starts.
Double Cash Mode is now its own mode instead of a Premium Upgrade. Enabling it still prevents the player's scores from being saved.
Leaderboards are renamed to "High Scores" and compare scores between save files instead of accounts. Deluxe Upgrades do not prevent scores from being registered.
Extreme rated tracks reward large amounts of Monkey Money alongside experience.
If a Monkey Engineer with Sentries is placed near the edge of the map and all terrain within its range is unplaceable or occupied, the Engineer may place Sentries out of bounds. This glitch was fixed for the Engineer in the Flash version of Bloons Monkey City.
In Deflation mode, a player can place Banana Farms despite the restriction, by clicking on the very edge of the tower's UI panel or by using the hotkey. However, farms do not produce extra income when placed this way.
In Deflation mode, the Continue button on the game over menu is supposed to be hidden off-screen to the right, but part of the button is still visible and can be clicked on.
BTD5 Deluxe released as v150812. It received a few updates until the end of 2013, most of which fixed bugs and added tracks from the Flash version that were introduced after Deluxe's release.
