Bloons Pop Three (also written Bloons Pop 3 on Ninja Kiwi's website) is a "match 3" tile-matching puzzle game developed by Ninja Kiwi. The goal of the game is to swap Bloons with adjacent Bloons to create rows or columns of at least three Bloons of the same color.
This game is part of the Bloons franchise, but it is not related to Bloons Pop! or part of a series. Its name refers to the goal of matching three or more Bloons at a time.
Gameplay
Bloons Pop Three is played on an 8×8 grid of random Bloons that come in seven different colors. The player can click on one Bloon, then a second Bloon vertically or horizontally adjacent to it, to swap their positions. The player can only make a move if it creates a match by lining up at least three Bloons of the same color vertically or horizontally. After swapping, all matched Bloons pop, triggering any special Bloons' effects and scoring points, then all Bloons below the ones that popped float upwards, and new random Bloons spawn from under the board to fill in the gaps.
After creating a match, if the final positions of all Bloons create another match, those matched Bloons also pop, starting a combo that adds to a score multiplier and repeats the process of moving and spawning Bloons to fill the gaps. The combo ends once the Bloons reach a final position that does not create a match, which resets the score multiplier and allows the player to make the next move. The game ends when the player clicks the "end game" or "start again" button, or when they can no longer make any valid moves.
The player can spend 200 points for a hint, which automatically selects a Bloon that the player is able to create a match with.
Special Bloons
When the game adds a Bloon to the board, there is a 17% chance it will have one of four special properties that triggers when it pops.
Score
- When a match occurs, the player earns points depending on the number of Bloons in the match.
- Match 3: 100 points
- Match 4: 150 points
- Match 5: 200 points
- If multiple matches occur simultaneously, each match generates points.
- L-shaped and T-shaped matches of the same color are treated as two separate matches, one for each line. For example, a T-shaped match with four orange Bloons vertically and three orange Bloons horizontally generates 150 points for the vertical match 4 and 100 for the horizontal match 3, for a total of 250 points.
- Bloons popped by tacks, spikey balls, or lightsabres add 50 points.
- Each popcorn Bloon popped adds 500 points to the score, on top of the score for the match or being popped by another special Bloon.
- These scores are all multiplied by a value that starts at 1 and doubles each time a step is added to the combo (2× on step 2, 4× on step 3, 8× on step 4, 16× on step 5, and capped at 32× on steps 6+).
Reactions
At the end of a combo that popped at least 11 Bloons in total, a message appears and an "audience reaction" sound cue triggers depending on the total number of Bloons that were popped.
| Pops | Reaction |
|---|---|
| 11–17 | Cool |
| 18–24 | Great |
| 25–29 | Awesome |
| 30–35 | Amazing |
| 36+ | Unbelievable |
