Damage over time (abbreviated DoT) is a mechanic where a Bloon takes damage from an effect at regular intervals for a certain amount of time. The amount of damage, the damage type it deals, the rate it deals damage at, and how long it lasts for depends on the source of DoT.

Variants

In Bloons TD 5, Bloons TD Battles, and Bloons Monkey City, there are multiple kinds of damage over time, all of which have slightly different mechanics. In Bloons TD 6, Bloons TD Battles 2, and Bloons Adventure Time TD, most sources of DoT are mutations that use the exact same mechanics as each other, and only differ in stats and visuals.

Acid

Bee sting

In Bloons TD 5, the Bee Keeper launches bees that latch onto Bloons, dealing damage over time until the Bloon disappears. Unlike other DoT effects, if a Bloon splits into multiple children when popped, bees only continue dealing damage to one of the child Bloons. In the mobile version and console version, every tick of damage from a bee sting goes towards the Bee Keeper's pop count, even though the pop count in these games normally only counts layers popped, not damage.

Burn

idk specifics of btd5

In BTD6, Battles 2, and BATTD, "burn" is a term commonly used to describe DoT effects with fire visuals, such as Burny Stuff and its further upgrades. Many of these burn effects deal fire-type damage, though some do not, such as Biker Bones's Activated Abilities in Battles 2, which deal explosion-type damage over time.

Corrosive glue

Shock

In BTD6 and Battles 2, the Dartling Gunner can inflict DoT with the Laser Shock upgrade. Dartling Gunners with this upgrade also deal extra damage to Bloons while they are shocked, similar to how Heavy Shells deals more damage to Bloons while they are stunned. In Battles 2, Sentai Churchill and Star Captain Jericho can also inflict DoT effects with the same visuals, though they don't deal extra damage to Bloons shocked by Dartling Gunners and vice versa.
