Hero Alt of Benjamin
Introduced Version 1.2

DJ Benjammin' is a Hero Alt of Benjamin in Bloons TD Battles 2, introduced in version 1.2. He costs  2,000 Monkey Money and Hero PointsBenjamin Hero Points 40,000 Benjamin Hero Points to unlock.

DJ Benjammin' generates cash at the end of each round, producing more cash based on how many towers are placed within his range, but he does not possess an attack initially. Compared to Benjamin, he generates less cash on his own, but can generate more when more towers are placed nearby. As he levels up, he generates more cash per round and unlocks additional methods of generating cash and supporting the player.

  • Starting at level 4, he generates a little cash each time a natural Bloon spawns on the player's side.
  • Starting at level 5, he increases the cash generated by all towers except Monkey Villages, Banana Farms, and Alchemists.
  • Starting at level 6, he reduces the cooldowns of all the player's Activated Abilities except his own.
  • Starting at level 7, he periodically sends an earworm to a random Bloon (up to a MOAB) that causes it to generate cash and spawn no children when popped. At higher levels, it can target BFBs and DDTs.
  • He has two Activated Abilities:
    • Good Vibes (level 3) — Grants up to three towers of each tower type +2 damage for a short time as long as at least one tower of that type is within his range. Affected towers stop attacking for 2 seconds after the buff expires. At higher levels, it lasts longer, buffs damage more, and can affect more towers at a time.
    • Beatdown (level 10) — Instantly downgrades up to 12 of the strongest Bloons ranked below ZOMGs on the player's side by 1 layer, limited to up to 4 BFBs. At level 20, it can also downgrade DDTs and up to 4 ZOMGs.

Mechanics

[edit | edit source]

Cash generation

[edit | edit source]

Benjamin generates cash at the end of each round, which increases for each tower placed within his range of 35 units, capped at 10 towers. This does not count sub-towers, Banana Farmers, Bloon Bots, or Tech Bots.

Levels Base amount Amount per tower Max. possible
1 $50 $10 $150
2–4 $75 $15 $225
5–7 $125 $25 $375
8–10 $200 $40 $600
11–14 $400 $80 $1,200
15–16 $1,000 $200 $3,000
17+ $2,000 $400 $6,000

Royalties

[edit | edit source]

Royalties is unlocked at level 4. He generates $1 for every naturally spawning Bloon (i.e. not from player sends) from the entrance. Starting at level 12, he generates $2 per Bloon instead of $1.

Side Hustle

[edit | edit source]

Side Hustle is unlocked at level 5. It applies a buff to all the player's towers that generate cash, except Banana Farms, Monkey Villages, Monkey Buccaneers (despite Monkey Pirates and Pirate Lord displaying the icon) or Alchemists that increases the amount of cash they generate by 6%. Starting at level 9, it increases cash generation by 9%.

Encore

[edit | edit source]

Encore is unlocked at level 6. It reduces the Activated Ability cooldowns of all the player's towers, except Benjamin, by 5%. Starting at level 14, it reduces cooldowns by 15%.

Earworm

[edit | edit source]

Earworm is unlocked at level 7. It grants Benjamin an attack that fires a seeking projectile at a random Bloon every 5–7 seconds. It ignores line of sight and can pass through blockers and Bloons that are not the target. Its pierce cannot be buffed. On contact, it deals no damage, but inflicts an effect that causes it to spawn no children and generate cash equivalent to the number of layers it has when its outer layer is popped. Initially, the attack cannot target Camo Bloons, anything ranked below a Pink Bloon, or anything ranked above a MOAB.

Levels
Level Effect
16 Attack cooldown reduces to 3–4 seconds. Bloons with the effect now give $2 per layer when destroyed.
18 Benjamin gains Camo detection, allowing his attack to target Camo Bloons and Advanced Intel to target Camo Bloons in his range. The projectiles can also now target BFBs and DDTs, though these Bloons do not give cash when destroyed.
Cash generated
Type Levels 7–15 Levels 16+
Pink $5 $10
White / Black / Purple $6 $12
Zebra / Lead $7 $14
Rainbow $8 $16
Ceramic $9 $18
MOAB $10 $20

Local tower buffs

[edit | edit source]

Starting from level 4, towers inside his range gain +1 pierce and +5 range. This increases to +2 pierce and +10 range starting from level 11.

Abilities

[edit | edit source]

Good Vibes

[edit | edit source]

Good Vibes is unlocked at level 3. For each tower within Benjamin's range, it grants a buff to up to three towers of the same type as it, which increases their base damage by +2 for 6 seconds. When the buff expires, it applies a second effect to the affected towers that freezes their attack cooldowns and Activated Ability cooldowns, prevents their abilities from being activated, and stops Heli Pilots from moving for the next 2 seconds. It has a 45-second cooldown and an 11.25-second initial cooldown.

This ability prioritizes the towers furthest in proximity from Benjamin that are of the same type as at least one tower within his range. For example, Dart Monkeys can only be buffed if at least one Dart Monkey is within his range. This can select towers that are within Benjamin's range. It ignores all Monkey Villages (including Primary Expertise), Banana Farms, Banana Farmers, Bloon Bots, Tech Bots, and sub-towers.

Levels
Level Effect
13 Now grants +3 damage and lasts for 8 seconds.
19 Can now affect up to four towers of the same type instead of three.

Beatdown

[edit | edit source]

Beatdown is unlocked at level 10. It downgrades up to 12 Bloons on the player's by one layer, prioritizing the strongest Bloons if there are more than 12 Bloons and ignoring ZOMGs, DDTs, and BADs. Zebra Bloons are always downgraded to White Bloons. It can only downgrade up to four BFBs, but can downgrade other Bloons even if the limit is reached. It cannot be used if there are no Bloons on-screen. It has a 65-second cooldown and no initial cooldown.

At level 20, it can downgrade up to 12 DDTs, up to 10 BFBs, and up to 4 ZOMGs.

DJ Benjammin is one of the best Heroes for both income and buffing towers with low damage and pierce but high attack speed, especially Dartling Gunner. His main appeal is his scaling cash gain for towers in his range, his passive pierce bonuses, and ridiculous early-game damage buffs with Good Vibes. His Beatdown is helpful to break apart BFB children from ZOMGs during the early 20's.

Despite his lack of attacks and initially weaker cash generation than normal Benjamin, his maxed cash gain is better than him in early levels. His weak initial income means placement should be delayed to a slightly later round when defense is no longer a concern. DJ Ben is usually paired with the Dartling Gunner, Engineer Monkey, or Dart Monkey to carry the early game. Glue Gunner is the cheapest base tower, but it's still too expensive to be a serious income booster early on.

His passive buffs to alt income, including directly increasing the cash generation and reducing ability cooldowns, can prove handy for more greedy eco strategies, with Sniper Monkeys as the best synergy for their small footprint to improve spammable use. DJ Ben also pairs well with the Engineer Monkey, providing more money from Bloon Trap income. Despite not affecting Farm or Village, having either is vital with DJ Ben, improving survival in the mid-game and late-game.

Unlike normal Benjamin, place DJ Ben in an open region where a lot of towers can be placed in range. This is important for his own bonus income, extending Good Vibes coverage per tower in range, and his level 4+ range buff and 11+ pierce buff. Note that Good Vibes targets the furthest towers of the same type, but this is usually not a problem.

For being the only heroes that does not provide any bloon popping power early on, Benjamin and DJ Ben Jammin’ were pretty highly priced relative to the other heroes.

17+
  • Buff Cash per round increased ― $1,875 → $3,000
DJ Ben has been given even more changes to distinguish him from the other heroes, including Ben. Every DJ needs a crowd so DJ Ben’s income is now based on the number of monkeys you can fit into his radius. He’s weaker than regular Ben by himself, but stronger if you can max out his crowd. We’ve also swapped his synergy with Farms for a synergy with alternative income monkeys like Sniper, Heli Pilot, and Engineer.
