Forum:Determine whether to split the Currency articles into separate pages based on game
| This is a settled discussion about changing something about Blooncyclopedia. Do not modify it. Deadline: Friday, 14 November 2025 at 23:59 UTC Outcome: 5-0 in favor of splitting. |
I called this a year ago when we were first making the Bloontonium page, but it's becoming increasingly clear that we need separate pages as each game's currency is vastly different between games, even if they have the same name. Many of these pages have suffered under this decision.
- The aforementioned Bloontonium page is vastly different depending on the game, either used to send Bloons in Monkey v Monkey in BMC, generate Bloonstones in Bloons Pop, or used as a Hero ability/card cost resource in Card Storm. All of these are vastly different use cases and the page is mangled as a consequence.
- The Monkey Money page is awful, with just a bunch of lists that can easily be separated out into separate pages and can't go into depth on any of them. It also hurts that we can't redirect from Fandom's articles very easily because all of those would redirect here.
- Cash is also in a similar boat, it has to cram a ton of information about each and every game into one channel.
- Bloonstones is as of typing not created yet, but I suspect it would run into the exact same issue despite the premium currency status remaining consistent between games, as in Bloons Pop it's mostly treated as a secondary resource with almost all purchases requiring both Monkey Money and it.
- Lives might be the only exception to the rule due to the simplicity of this system, but it also has the same flaws, each game is very different with how it interacts with lives.
So my plea is simple; Please split these pages so that more depth can be added to each page.

I strongly believe that splitting most if not all of these pages is the right play in the long term as more and more information is added to the wiki. --Planterror (talk) 13:04, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Support for Bloontonium. This one has so many differences that are far different from what they do for each game. The base Bloontonium page should just be more about summarizing what Bloontonium does in each game. The others just need to be re-created and rewritten from scratch. Also Support for Monkey Money. Again, depth could be better if the pages were separated, especially for BTD6, BCS, and BTDB2. Qwertyxp2000 (talk) 13:11, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
I support all of them, but the only one I strongly support is Monkey Money and Cash. I think we should still have a general page in case there isn't enough for filling more than a paragraph, like Bloons Pop! Bloontonium, but details otherwise should be saved for game-specific pages.
Bloontonium is fairly sparse and not cluttered, but it's also not updated for the latest stuff in BCS. It may need a split for maintaining that.
Cash and MM are in multiple games and have uses/acquisition different in each. Especially if we plan on having a list of cash/MM sources in every game, they will become cluttered very fast without a split.
Lives doesn't change much...between the TD games. But in BSM2 Mobile and HAB iOS, they are significantly different enough, although their mechanics are explained in a paragraph. I'm mostly concerned about the list of life restores getting bloated. Maybe Life-Shield Generation could get its own article? DesArch (talk) 14:23, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
Yep, they can be separated if there's enough to talk about them Drgoku282 (talk) 16:09, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

I prefer not to split cash because the mechanics of cash and how you use it doesn't change that much between games. Right now the page is really short too, so it's not like it's even causing problems with navigation or loading times at the moment. If it does in the future, we could split the sources of cash by game instead (like with Attack speed and List of attack cooldown multipliers in BTD6). I could see the argument for monkey money, bloontonium, and bloonstones since their mechanics and use differ more between games, but I think you could add to and organize the pages better without needing to split them. I'm not sure how in-depth you need to be about monkey money when it's just money. You could list the exact amounts of monkey money you get from each source and exact monkey money costs for everything you can spend them on, but those are already listed on other pages.
