MOAB-Class Bloons, or simply MOABs, are a class of large dirigible-like Bloons. The classification is named after the MOAB, the first MOAB-Class Bloon introduced to the series in Bloons Tower Defense 3, although the classification itself was coined in Bloons TD 5. MOAB-Class Bloons are typically much larger than regular Bloons and have very high RBE.

Since Bloons TD 5, MOAB-Class Bloons have appeared in every game in the Bloons TD series, as well as Bloons Supermonkey 2. In Bloons Card Storm, there is a similar classification known as "Large Bloons", which includes some non-dirigible Bloons.

In most games with Boss Bloons, they are also treated as MOAB-Class Bloons and have similar characteristics, though some Boss Bloons are not dirigibles. Bloons Pop!, Bloons Card Storm, and Bloons Blitz do not classify MOAB-Class Bloons, and thus the Boss Bloons in these games do not share mechanics with Bloons that are considered MOAB-Class Bloons in other games.

Mechanics

The editor who added this notice elaborates: This should be split up into different game-specific sections to describe specifics in each game, like how damage passthrough works

MOAB-Class Bloons have very high RBE and contain multiple other Bloons inside them. They tend to resist status effects from lower tier towers, such as glue or freezing, though most damage over time effects work on them normally. Some attacks have special properties against MOAB-Class Bloons, such as dealing additional damage or applying additional effects.

In the Bloons TD series, most MOAB-Class Bloons are very slow, often slower than Red Bloons and Lead Bloons, with the exception of DDTs. In Bloons TD 6, Bloons TD Battles 2, and Bloons Adventure Time TD, MOAB-Class Bloons can be Fortified, which doubles their health. In BATTD, they may also be Ghost Bloons, giving them additional resistances.

Nomenclature

[edit | edit source]

MOAB-Class Bloons are not officially referred to as a classification in Bloons Tower Defense 3 or Bloons TD 4. In Bloons TD 5, Bloons TD Battles, and Bloons Monkey City, they are usually referred to as "MOAB-class bloons" or "MOAB class bloons" in the descriptions of upgrades such as MOAB Mauler, MOAB-SHREDR Spikes, and Supa-Vac. In BTD5, they are also referred to as "boss bloons",[1][2] despite the mobile version having proper Boss Bloons as well.

In Bloons TD 6 and Bloons TD Battles 2, "MOAB-Class Bloons" is the most common form, as seen the descriptions of Quincy, Ezili, and Pat Fusty's upgrades, as well as MOAB Mauler, MOAB Press, and Icicle Impale, though other forms of capitalization are also used. The tutorial message when encountering a MOAB-Class Bloon for the first time in BTD6 refers to them as "M.O.A.B. Class Bloons", though this formatting is not used anywhere else. Although not referred to as such in-game, official patch notes sometimes refers to MOAB-Class Bloons as "blimps",[3] though in real life, blimps are usually defined as not having a rigid internal framework; it would be more accurate to refer to them as zeppelins.

MOAB-Class Bloons are sometimes referred to as just "MOABs". To avoid ambiguity, the MOAB is sometimes referred to as the "Blue MOAB".[4]

Although Bloons Pop! has the MOAB, Behemoth, and ZOMG, they are not referred to or treated as part of a shared class. The Behemoth and ZOMG are unaffected by the MOAB Specialist bonus in Party Crashers, and attacks that deal extra damage to Boss Bloons only apply to the Behemoth and ZOMG.

In Bloons Card Storm, the Large Bloon classification includes Bloons that are classified as MOAB-Class Bloons in other games, as well as some non-dirigble Bloons, such as Weakening Gas Bloons. MOAB Mauler and MOAB Dominator affect all Large Bloons in this game, despite their names implying they only affect MOAB-Class Bloons. The classification does not include Boss Bloons.
