Fishing Spots are special tiles in the Frontier Legends DLC for Bloons TD 6. They allow the player to play a minigame to catch fish, which convert to Bananite and some Stamina when caught. The player enters the minigame by choosing a fishing rod to cast in the water, then waiting a short time between 3 and 15 seconds for a fish to bite.

Mechanics
The minigame consists of a vertical box where the fish moves up and down, with the player needing to press or release the Reel In! button to keep a small window on top of the fish. While the fish is on the window, the bar next to the fish fills up, but if the fish goes outside the window, the bar drains. If the player fills the bar, they successfully catch the fish, but if the bar fully empties, the fish escapes and the player earns nothing. Each fish caught has a random weight, which determines its Bananite value. There is also a small chance for a fish to be "SHINY", which increases its Bananite value.

When the player enters a Fishing Spot, they can choose one of three fishing rods to cast in the water. Once a fish bites, the player enters a minigame consisting of a vertical box where the fish moves up and down, with the player needing to press or release the Reel In! button to keep a small window on top of the fish. While the fish is on the window, the bar next to the fish fills up, but if the fish goes outside the window, the bar empies. If the player fills the bar, they successfully catch the fish and earn Bananite depending on its value, but if the bar fully empties, the fish escapes and the player earns nothing.

There are multiple kinds of fish that can appear. Each fish has a different movement pattern in the minigame and has a random weight range. There are also trash items, which are functionally identical to fish aside from having very little Bananite value. There is also a small chance for each fish to be "SHINY", which increases its Bananite value. The types of fish that appear depend on the fishing rod the player uses. The player can unlock more rods by purchasing them from the General Store in Sandytown.
There are multiple kinds of fish that can appear. Each type of fish has a different movement pattern in the minigame. There are also trash items, which are functionally identical to fish aside from having very little Bananite value. The player can see their collection of previously captured fish, and the game keeps track of the heaviest one the player caught for each one. The player can also earn a black border for a fish by catching it a certain number of times.

The player can see their collection of previously captured fish, and the game keeps track of the heaviest one the player caught for each one. The player can also earn a black border for a fish by catching it a certain number of times, depending on the fish.
In addition to the moving pattern of each fish, their speed also determines the overall difficulty of the minigame and there are a few things that can change it. First, the heaviest fishes are faster: the ones in the 80th to 95th percentile are 15% faster and those between the 95th to 100th percentile are 25% faster. If Sheriff uses the Waders body equipment, the speed is reduced 5%. And finally, shiny fish are also 30% faster than their regular counterparts.

There are 3 types of fishing rods the player can choose from. Higher-tier fishing rods have better chances of capturing higher-tier fish. The Regular Fishing Rod is given to Sheriff during the story, while the Great and Legendary rods must be bought from the General Store in Sandytown.

Fish variety
Most Fishing Spots have increased odds of choosing one, two, or three specific kinds of fish, depending on the area. Outdoors areas have different odds at night, and if an area has multiple Fishing Spots, they all have the same odds. When the player hooks a fish, after the game determines the fish's rarity, it attempts to choose a fish from a list of probabilities specific to that area first. Since none of the areas' fish probabilities add up to 100% or include fish from every rarity group, there is always a chance the game doesn't choose any of those fish; when that happens, it instead chooses a fish using the default probabilities shown in the above table.

Note that an area's fish probabilities aren't the same as the actual chances of catching those fish in that area. The game can only pick a fish on an area's probability table if it chooses to pick from that fish's rarity group first, and if the game does choose that rarity but doesn't pick anything in the area's probability table, it may pick that fish anyway from the default probability table.

The editor who added this notice elaborates: Fish movement mechanics
Fishing spots are indicated by a fish sign

Fishing Spots are special tiles in the Frontier Legends DLC for Bloons TD 6. They allow the player to play a minigame to catch fish, which convert to Bananite and some Stamina when caught. The player enters the minigame by choosing a fishing rod to cast in the water, then waiting a short time between 3 and 15 seconds for a fish to bite.

Fishing rods

[edit | edit source]

There are 3 types of fishing rods the player can choose from. Higher-tier fishing rods have better chances of capturing higher-tier fish. The Regular Fishing Rod is given to Sheriff during the story, while the Great and Legendary rods must be bought from the General Store in Sandytown.

Fish variety

[edit | edit source]

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Some elements of Fishing Spots seem to be references to other games:
    • The fishing minigame is very similar to the fishing minigame in Stardew Valley.
    • The chance of fish being SHINY seems to be a reference to Shiny Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise, which similarly are obtainable through a fishing mechanic (among other methods).
